First Hunt coming up with my GSP

Post by txgsp » Mon Nov 22, 2010 9:43 pm

Hey y'all-

I don't post much around here, kind of just read around and absorb all the knowledge. I am taking my GSP on our first hunt ever this Wednesday in Columbus, TX out at a hunting preserve. I know it won't be as good as wild birds, but I am really excited none the less. He was trained this summer for 2 months at Anderson Ranch Gun Dogs in Decatur, TX while I was studying abroad. He is a ball of energy and I am hoping he does well this week. I'll be sure to post some pictures after our first hunt together.

Picture of him at training early on-

Thanks guys/gals,
William

The most important thing to do with a young dog is "JUST LET HIM HUNT"

I am really happy with how Tucker did this weekend. He pointed at least 10 birds and busted 2 coveys. He had a hard time though because the winds were 20+ mph, so he was having some trouble tracking exactly where the scent was. All in all, I am happy with how he did. I will post some pictures asap. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sorry, when I said covey, I meant a group of quail bedded down together in a thick bush area. Didn't mean nesting area. My bad.

Boy that is a nice looking dog! There's a preserve here I'm using that does have wild birds around, especially quail.

PM sent

I'm glad you had a good hunt. If you dont mind, I would like to ask you some questions about where you got your dog, who trained it, where you go hunting here in TX etc as I also live in TX.

I live in TX as well and am looking to get a GSP this summer. I am trying to do some research on breeders and trainers.
