Opening Weekend in Texas!!!!

Well, the season opened for us here in Texas on Saturday. I went with some friends on their ranch. It isn't located in the best area and we didn't find nearly as many birds as most of the guys that I have talked to that hunted the prime areas. We averaged 1.5 covies per hour. The number of birds we found and the dogwork was better than expected for the first hunt of the season and especially for this particular area. All in all, I am glad that my favorite 4 months of the year are finally here!

We got into one covey of blues. That didn't disappoint me though. I would much rather play with the bobs than chase the blues.

You did better than me. We went to a buddies deer lease in Throckmorton that was supposed to be covered up in quail. We got there at midnight and the cabin was overrun in yellowjackets, so we had to sleep in the truck. After covering 400 acres on Saturday and flushing one covey of quail, I'm thinking my buddy has trouble telling quail from meadowlarks. But at least we were hunting.
