Missouri Grouse Hunting

Post by bean1031 » Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:49 pm

I was just browsing through the missouri hunting web site and saw that you can hunt ruffed grouse in missouri. I search the web but couldnt find any outfitters or places to hunt them. Can anyone give me more info?

There is also a season for woodcock in Kansas, doesnt mean its worth your time. They have a season in Mo because you MIGHT see one or two. Personally I have seen about 10 woodcock in Ks in 20 years and that hasnt been until the past 4-5 years.

I was determined to kill a grouse in Missouri back in the 1980's and I finally did. One. I saw a few more and heard a few more flush but it just wasn't worth the effort. You can hunt them starting on Oct 15 so that gave me a few more days in the woods with the dogs before quail season started. BTW I hunted exclusively in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Central MO. where they had been reintroduced. There may be more up in the North Eastern part of the state.
Be wary of the man in the tattered old hunting coat with the bony pointer and the well worn side by side, he'll outshoot you every day.

Go north young man, go north. SD, ND, MT. I'll be up there in October for just that reason.
