2025 quail season
84 years old and still at it, but have to hunt off a quad. I live in an area that is owned by many land investors. Desert sand and brush is great habitat on a wet year. Last year on the last day of season, I was in a covey of over 100 birds. I get out about 40 days each year. Have only gone birdless a few days in the past 5 years. I still have Missy, my avatar picture dog, but she is 12 and deaf. She rides in a dog box on the quad till ewe hit birds. I have a new Brittany that is 3 years old. This will be his third season. He was 6 months old for his first season. He and Missy both slammed on point together 15 yards apart. I flushed his bird and both birds left. I dropped both birds with a left and right shot. Both dogs retrieved to hand. I was amazed, mostly because I am a poor shot. My pup Duke needed no training other than gun acclimation. Today I left the house at 5:30 this evening and got about 10 points off of each dog within a mile from my home. They know with the cooler weather that we will be hunting soon and are excited every morning. Season opens the 18th here in CA. and I thank the good lord for one more season in the field.
