Found some birds.. little quail action this morning.

Post by ultracarry » Thu Dec 06, 2012 1:50 pm

Took miss Kimber Ultra Carry out this morning for the second time this season. She is in heat right now and will be bred so I want to get in as much hunting as I can so she doesn't feel forgotten..

Dropped her out of the truck and within 5 minutes I found her standing under a large rock (picture) . Went out in front and looked back at her when birds started lifting in 20's . Another 35-40 yards in front of me. I don't k.ow what she has been uo to but she had a cannon for a nose today. She laid down a nice pattern and checked everywhere I would have wanted her to. She had 10+ productive points and I shot three birds for her which she retrieved all to hand. Also had a few stop to flushes which she slammed on the brakes and waited until I released her.

Not too bad for a dog in heat wearing a diaper in my truck.

Photos will upload as soon as I downsize.....

I've always called them valleys but was told they are California quail..... Don't really think there is a difference. I'll see about getting some close up shots tomorrow if we get back on them.

You got a darn nice dog and lots of money invested. OFA is only pennys compared to what you have invested.

750..... :) pretty high right. I wouldn't breed my dog to make money. I would rather charge half price or sell them for two hundred if someone was going to give it a good home and trial it.

I Think I may come off abrasive but its not my intention. As far as asking for a price without me directly advertising a litter would be more in the interest of someone spending money on the pups and not me saying "you can't afford it" . I am going to be getting OFA and the color gene test done before I breed her. After thinking about how much money would be involved with this one (way more than the pups price if there were any), I would hate to see lemon and white pups in the litter.

Plus the Nat am walking gun dog is in California and I want her to be in prime condition, continue hunting wild birds, maybe a HB trial or 10, and enjoy myself a little.

If you are choosing those credentials, why not just go ahead and try for CHIC?

Huh. Considering the dog I thought it would be a lot more than that. Best of luck with the litter and the upcoming trial season.
