It used to be called Blue Grouse. Now the "Blue's" are separated into two distinct species the Sooty and the Dusky.

I laid off the NM grouse due to the archery big game hunts being held at the same time in the same areas. I don't want to screw the archery hunters up. And i sure don't want one of them sticking me or my dog with an arrow.

gotpointers,

I did not come across any bowhunters (not even any of their vehicles) though I didn't hunt until early October. Good thing to be cautious for-thanks.

I have only on one occasion had any bad dealings with bowhunters. After a brief discusion, (to paraphrase myself) I said, "This is exactly what the anti's want." It shut them up and got them pensive. Then, they said, "Have you seen any signs?" I told them where I hunt, after all, I bowhunt myself. And, if a bow hunter chooses to try to shoot at me or my dog - he will becoming acquainted with 1 oz. of #7''s.

Ed, my regular hunting buddy has't shown much interest in hunting grouse, lately. I will send a PM to you. BTW, Duke is looking good.

I think its an extremely slight possibility getting shot or shot at. I would carry buckshot if i really felt a threat or better yet i avoid the possible situation.

Game and fish should schedule accordingly and run the grouse season later. IMO
