Post by gsps4evr » Sat Aug 24, 2013 6:35 pm

Just got home from running UT test had great testing conditions today. I'm very happy to say my boy Fonzie finished up the day with a 194 prize 1.

Thanks everyone I still have a big smile on my face. Not sure if I'll make a run for VC yet but I'm thinking I probably will for the experience. Just going to take him hunting and have fun now.

Heres some details of how the day went.
We started off first in the running order. Started in the field after about 5 minutes or so he went on point I kicked up the bird and the gunners shot it. He moved a bit to mark but all was good though and had a nice clean retrieve. That was pretty much how it went with birds 1-5. After the 5th bird the judge said time was getting close to the 30 minute mark and he could start heading back he mentioned theres one move bird out here but They'd seen enough so I was pretty confident in our field portion.

Next was the marked retrieve. I made a screw up threw the heeling course and we got dinged there. Everything went pretty smoothing threw this portion except he creeped ahead a bit on the steady by blind. We hadn't worked on this but a couple times this years.

His duck search he tore it up. I shot an released him an at about 3 minutes in he come back with a duck. Had to resend him and he took my line and searched around. The judges said call him back they had seen enough an at that point he got onto a wild duck and I had a tough time getting him back. He's possessed with finding ducks and resending and finding duck number 2 its how we train.

An the drag went smooth there and back.

I wasn't sure how we would do this year on the Utility Test. It has been a busy summer and I hadn't had the time to train like I would of like to have. Just glad I have such a talented pooch. My goal was to improve on how we did last year and we exceeded that and I'm extremely happy.

He really ran great and was fun to watch. Not bad when they place 1 duck and he finds two ;)
