Updates from my other post NA Testing Disappointed

Post by John S » Sun Jun 02, 2013 2:51 pm

If you followed my other thread about Scouts NA test and his failure to swim you'll be glad to hear the latest. Since the NA test we have had Scout back in the water twice. Both times with the same results. Very reluctant to swim, to the point that I've just about had to force him into the water.
This weekend was our annual trip to a camp ground in South Jersey for a car show we go to every year. Since there is a small pond at the campground I decided to bring the kayak and try to work with Scout a bit in the pond.
Here is a video we shot from the weekend. As you can see in the beginning he is still very apprehensive about going into deep water. At about 1:04 in the video something just seems to click. From there it was all down hill.
I can not express how happy and proud both me and the wife are for him. And the best part is that we did not have to force this on him and he is truly enjoying the water now. I can tell he was looking forward to it every time we picked up a couple of dummies and headed towards the pond.
I can not seem to embed the video, hopefully the link will work....

Video worked and that is AWESOME! Congrats to you for pushing through and getting Scout swimming with such ease and excitement to fetch.

It was funny because people driving past the pond would stop and watch. One old man cam over on Sunday and asked if I hunted the dog and we got into a bit of a conversation. He had said he saw us on Saturday and it looked like the dog was not wanting to go into the water, but watching him noe he looked like he's been doing it forever and have a fun time.

I know you all must have felt the same way at different times of your dog's development but I am so proud of Scout, he's come along beautifully.

Great video. Once they start its they won't quit. :) When we lived in Phoenix we had a pool and once we introduced them to it, we could not get in the pool without them joining us. Lots of hair in the skimmer :?
