On the brag bandwagon...

Post by DGFavor » Mon Oct 02, 2006 10:50 pm

Well heck, I'll jump on the brag bandwagon too!

Stitchyboy pulled out a last minute runner up at the Reg. 8 NGSPA Am. Shooting Dog championship last week. I say last minute because a call back was required and they put him on standby in case one of the other two had a bobble. As luck, or bad luck, would have it...one dog had a bobble and Stitch did it right when he needed to. Felt bad to get "in the money" that way but at the same time, we all knew going in we'd have to do a satisfactory callback to get a placement...so bittersweet I guess. 32 dogs in the stake so just being put on standby was initially a victory for us!

Proud of the little dude...2 hour championship wins, 1 runner up championship win, and a regional shooting dog of the year title for the little nut.

Hey Doug, big congrats. I hate that course, it is a tough one to run on. Dogs get up on the high plateau and just go hunting along the top of that break. Kinda ruins the end of their race. You musta figured out how to keep Stichy running up there. Way to go.

Great job Doug and Stitch! Just goes to show that you have to train to the level that keeps "pup" from coming unglued when you really need it!

Thanks - always good to have some luck on your side!! :)

John - yes, very tough course. I ran the AA mainly to get some stategy for the ASD. As I mentioned to you elsewhere, our dogs were braced together in the AA and blasted across the open country then they both sort of got hung up hunting, as they should, all that rock and mahogany country. Great for bird finding but horrible for showing some of the other stuff necessary to win a trial.

In the ASD, I purposefully shot my dog off to the left along a nice fenceline on the way out and he showed great. He pulled off that fenceline up a brushy finger draw to the mahogany's and picked up 3 finds before we made the corner. On top, I knew I could send him out across the buffalo grass because it looks just like where we might find sharpies out here...just shorter. He went clear to the highway swung forward nearly to the Richardson's house, then worked all the little rims out across the front...I saw a couple antelope out there that may have assisted!! Worked out well - take the prizes and run before they come to their senses is my motto!

Sounds like it was just the way you wanted it. That doesn't happen too often.

Congrats

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Well, that is the deal. I can't ever get dogs away from that break once we are up on top, and they just go hunting. Happens to about 90% of the dogs that run that trial.

Sounds like a well deserved win John. That has to be an awesome feeling sitting in the saddle watching your dog just rim the place. Congrats.
