Pointing Dog Journal Brag!

Post by phermes1 » Tue Jul 13, 2010 7:45 am

Just got the July/August issue of Pointing Dog Journal, so it's time to share a brag on my wife!

She loves taking pictures. She's taken some excellent pics of various dogs, and our living room wall is covered with close-up shots of various flowers she's found at the hunt club.
She took a picture in January at a field trial of 3 dogs sitting on tailgate watching their owner. They were trained not to get down, so they didn't, but they were all bunched up and very interested in what was going on. It was a very cute picture.
One way or another, Bob Bertram came across it, (I think via Facebook, but I'm not sure). Anyway, he loved it and asked for permission to paint it. He received it, he did a GREAT job, and that painting is now on the cover of Pointing Dog Journal.

Bob did a really nice job capturing each dog's expression. Besides the fact that my wife took the picture, it's one of my favorite works of his. Even despite the fact that it's the wrong breed. :)

Do the actual owners know the picture was painted?

That would be a great surprise to pick up the PDJ and see your three pups on the cover!

Yes, they do. Actually, we're each getting a print from Bob Bertram for allowing him to use the photo. We were hoping the owner would find out by having the print show up on his doorstep, but the issue came out first and he found out when a friend called him and told him.

Very cool. Your wife has an eye for an interesting and artistic Photo and Bob truely knows how to capture the true expression of a dog. My wife had Bob do one for me of one of my dogs. One of my favorite things to look at in the house.

It was taken at the Panhandle GSP Club's field trial in Defuniak Springs this past January. Those are Jim Eustace's dogs.

A BIG congrats to your wife for taking the photo that inspired such a beautiful cover of PDJ.
It reminds me of another cover photo titled "Waiting At Hawkeye", used for an issue back in the PDJ's third year.
