Against popular opinion and going on the idea that I got this dog to HUNT and not to sit in the kennel, I took Ernie with me to Arkansas for our goose hunt last week. Here is my original post: http://www.retrievertraining.net/for...goose+retrieve
First morning, one lone goose came in, we dropped it, Ern held steady, on release, with my breath held he went and had zero problem to bring me back his first snow goose ever. I had many a sleepless night after he had refused to bring me a Canadian earlier in the season. After this retrieve, he got many more opportunities, before it was over he had retrieved 43 geese over 2 days hunting. Picture perfect on all of them, with the highlights being a 500 yard blind and a couple of 300 and 150 yarders, all on cripples. He loved every minute of it, especially the chases. He nabbed one out of the air trying to fly off from about 5' up. He is now a goose tackling, goose retrieving machine!
Even though I didn't follow advice to leave him home lest I be setting myself up for a cluster...I was glad I did it. The hunt gave this pup valuable seat time, and proved to me further that he was a versatile machine. The day after our return, he had 6 quick points on quail at an AKC pointing dog hunt test to receive yet another pass.
This dog has exceeded my expectations of him...This German Shorthair got it done from the goose pit to the bird field, with drive and vigor, never letting me down.

Great job. The more things you can hunt with him the better in my book
