Belated Setter Brag

Post by wetvet » Sun Aug 03, 2008 7:19 pm

Its been awhile since I've been on the forum, so neglected to share our good fortune. Ethan (Esthete's Knight's Quest) picked up a 5 point major, going Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Breed over 3 champions at the Five Valley KC dog show in Missoula, MT on June 24th. That brings us up to 13 points, and we're hoping against hope to get him finished (and a major haircut) before the opening of grouse season. Show setters like to hunt, too!

I have found very few setters that won't point and hunt although much slower. The hunt is still there.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged at these last shows to see that a sizeable number of all three breeds of setters had field titles, or their parents did. In years past a lot of these dogs have never have been introduced to birds. I think the instinct is still there, its just been neglected until recently.

...because the opening image tag was missing the left square bracket...

I think I fixed it. I'l l clean up the redundant posts this evening when I can see the pictures (they're blocked when I'm at work)

Just a follow-up. In August we traveled to Greeley, CO and attended the English Setter Club of Denver's specialty show. Ethan went first in the open class and then went Winner's Dog for a 4 pt major, which finished his championship.

Since then, he got a major field haircut and has been having a great time hunting ptarmigan and grouse.
