I was wondering what lines of britts are producing top dogs that are still in the 30 to 40lbs. range. I reallly don't want one of these 50 or 60lbs. dogs you see coming out of some of the trial line. I'm just looking for a good grouse and woodcock dog and maybe some of the dog game, but gun dog first.

Good luck finding a 60lb. brittany. That would be Brittany-the-Hut. Nolan's Last Bullet is all the rage in the Brittany world from what I hear. It was the most winnigest dog in the NSTRA. Anything with those type lines I guess would be good.

I haven't seen a 50 or 60lb Brit at a field trial. My boy is 43.5lbs and he is as big a Brittany I have seen out of trial lines. He was in a litter of 10 and he is the only one that was out of standard.

I would call Dave Jones at Chief's Brittanys if you want one heck of a bird dog that also makes a great pet.

Up-hunter, there are a lot of really exceptional Brittany breeders out there breeding in standard dogs that hunt up a storm. Where are you located?

I think I remember you saying you were hunting the Up so I am assuming you are in MI some where.
30 - 40 is right were most brittanys seem to be. My female is right at 30 and my male is at 38lbs. Now I have seen larger but that seems to be the exception not the rule.
If you are looking for a good breeder right in MI have a look at Ron Auten at http://www.geocities.com/ronalda4/ . Ron and Carol produce some great dogs both for the hunter and the trialer. He has been at it a good long time and nicer folks you will be hard pressed to find.
There are also a lot of other great breeders out there, if you want more names PM me and I will send you a few more.

There are many solid lines of brittanys out there

most will be in nomal size range and with as many breeders as there are it is just as easy to fall in love with a pup from a breeder who does what they can as to one who doesn't

Talk to the breeders ask them questions There are many good ones out there. If one comes across wrong find another that your comfortable with.

There are many good breeders throughout the midwest. Michigan and Minnesota have active Brittany clubs. I would check through one of them and you will not only find a breeder but someone that can help you throughout the training period.

I have yet to see a brittany in the 50 lbs plus area. I've seen some taht looked bigger but even still only weigh about 45 lbs. Its alot easier to find one in the 30-40 lbs range than to find one that is bigger than that. Look around see what you find there are lots of litters out there its just alot about finding what you want. PM if you wanna talk more about dogs maybe I could help you out. I know of several people in the midwest that raise high quality dogs.

I have a 65 pound American Brittany and seen just this summer a few of 50 plus pound brittanies in the brittany field trials in Fryburg.

I know most are in the 40 pound area. I however see a few a year over 50.

I would want some indication they are within the standard confirmation wise too. I dont think any of those dogs close up have been shown.
