kennel floor?
kennel floor?
I'm planning on building a new kennel very soon. It will be a single run and I'm looking for an allternitive to pouring a concrete floor. I like concrete for the ease of cleaning and no muddy when my GSP comes in at night , but I'm hoping for a cheaper way to go. Just wanted to see what some of you use. Thanks in advance.
Cheaper than concrete (if you do it yourself) is going to be hard to beat. We are just over 1.00 a square for it here.

Hey Josh, pour the concrete and be done with it. you will be glad you did later on. PS Be sure to put a little fall in it so it can drain. Use 2x4's to build your frame that will be thick enough.----Sonny

pouring concrete is the way to go BUT I did not do that. We are planning on putting our house on the market come 2009 (its just a plan) so the wife said NO WAY ARE YOU GOING TO POUR CONCRETE! so... cough, the wife says goes... anyway i used patio block that were 24"x24". So far so good but there are spaces that need to be filled in with blue stone dust every so often. i have it pitched at an angle so there is run off. it took me a long time to get this right. i got the blocks as tight and level as possible so its basically almost like a concrete pad.
but if you can try to get quotes on pouring the stuff in. when we move into the new home i am going to do this.

we got 4 concrete blocks and used them to raise a floor made of 2x4s and left each 2x4 about a cm apart that way its easy to clean gets airflow and doesnt kill the grass.

I don't know exactly what your needs are but the Scott type kennels are portable. I use them for bitches in season and for whelping. You will have some odor in hot weather but it can be controlled for the most part with lime.
You would also need to be in the position to give the dog daily exercise due to the tight confinement of the system.
