I just kind of wonder why this sort of stuff always seems to escalate during HOF nomination time.....

So this means that LD didn't come from Rusty it came from an un named pointer though it's not been seen in the pointer breed?????????????? Before they put the name of LD to it was called the German Crud should have been call the English Crud I guess. You know what really makes the difference one way or the other now?? It's a little LATE IN THE BALL GAME!!!

Aliens brought it. Geeze.

If ypu look at some of the health issues known to occur in GSP, they are strikingly similar to those in Dobermans. Cardio, skin, color dilution, aggression, bloat, cancer, all come to mind. Now, when a single pointer breeding cured a genetic defect in Dalmatians which returned to indistinguishable type in three generations, why do we still have shorthairs tagged as pointers after thirty years? Could it be that the breed just wasn't that consistent to begin with, as documented by Byrne? Also, why would you bother to cheat with pointer breedings and not take it to the next level and try to beat that breed on its own terms? Seems like the waste of a good pointer.

That was my first thought but......

I like a dog was a dual and a german import to boot.

kay vd wildburg, was a fine dog. bred in germany came here and won a few trials and show comp.

http://www.ngspa.org/HOF-inductees/kayvdWildburg.html

I just love the looks of that dog.

I recall a guy said clown was the largest new born he ever saw, was twice as big as the others.... Seems the trials guys wanted a dog could compete with them eps so if ya cant beat em....

I seen worse in horse racing world tho. Sickened me to hear and see a horse break a leg on a fast run. Shoulda been in a stall healing up from the last run. or a jockey thrown cause he zapped the horse in the wrong spot.

Here ia aquestion for Jim & I'm not trying to be a SA because I know you,Joe,& quite a few others know more then I ever will about F trials & the dogs that have competed in them I only statred about 6 yrs ago though I've owned GSPS for over 35 yrs.You had no Quams about bringing this all to attension & putting Rusty's name out there so why are you holding back the POINTERS NAME?????

this is obvious, remember the border war with Canada here on the forum over the 4th. Well the pointer is English our allies and the shorthair is German, are you following the logic here?

Why would it matter what pointer it was? Could have been some pointer flea bag out of AA bloodlines. The pointer breed wasn't affected by this so the name of the pointer is null and void. Doesn't matter a bit. Do you want to know which pointer it was so you can line breed it with the other GSP's?  I couldn't resist.

I just couldn't resist wondered how long it would take Joe to respond maybe one day you can get it done at eureka and I thought you already retired. Hope things are picking up for you in New York so we can see if you got anything worth running.

I owned NAFC BigOaks Irish Mist a littermate to BigOaks Tiny Tim. Misty had six litters from six different males, never had a mismarked pup and never a blazed face. Those dogs were "bleep" bird cazy and hard to brake.I saw Misty chase a hang glider a half mile one day.a pointer boy would have shot them both.If there was pointer in those pedigree's I would think it was back a number of generations...vern

jasonw99 wrote:Jim Jackson I totally get what your saying. on two issues. I often wonder how many of rusty breedings were Luke? and who are rustys parents. either way I don't care because those lines are good mixed with the right dogs.

I own American shorthair pointers. really most people do. does it matter if the dogs bred in the 60 70 80 90 may have been from pointers? as long as they have some resemblance of a shorthair. Ie liver head don't throw lemon dogs. I don't really care.

I still think slick was the greatest gsp ever. just wasn't marketed and bred like the other dogs were

+1 jasonn99...I do agree that we need to have our own American pointer..Heck leave the tails on them.

If we would have are own breed who cares what color..

IMO its Hustler or Rugerhiem....I like the dark GSPs ..I hunt fowl and upland mostly in the snow.

You might be right with style then they only wanted a good ruff shooters dog or meat dogs I bet they worked the dogs harder and only bred to get better dogs, just like us. Maybe they were better hounds men because they put the time in to get to know their dogs, then there were no pro to train your dog. My 2c

They greatest dog was owned by a hounds man that loved that dog, the dog with the most titles you will have to check records with AKC etc

I don't know enough to say if Chloe was the best gsp ever but if I'm not mistaken she has produced three national champions from three different litters.....that's impressive.

I think Blue Earth Rex and a lot of the Grief lines had big influence on the GSP.
