Kennel Upgrade

I was finally able to get some of my long planned kennel upgrade done yesterday. My dogs would usually spend equal time in and out of the house. But I had to remove all the old kennels durning our remodel. Going to be really nice to have a safe place for them when we are away from the house and looking forward to not having to let dogs out in the middle of the night!

Weather permitting, hopefully I can get to the roof next weekend and mount the hose up off the ground. The plan is to construct a subframe with pressure treated lumber and use brown sheet metal roofing material. Also debating on adding some sheet metal a few feet up the exposed sidewall for some additional morning shade. Pretty happy with how it has turned out so far.

I borrowed your suggestion and installed schedule 80 PVC couplings on the bottom of all the posts to keep the metal off the ground. Perfect fit for the galvanized fence rail I used, should give us some more years of service. Thanks!

Two lessons I learned the hard way.
Make sure the hose and everything else is is far enough away so the dogs can't reach it with their paws and that the latches are high enough so the dogs can't reach them with their nose.
Otherwise it looks nice........Cj

Good advice.

I have replaced more than a couple of hose ends over the years. I also typically put the closers up about eyeball high. Even so, I had one dog that figured out how to open the gate, so I had to use a bolt snap on his kennel closer.

One thing about getting really old, I have had a chance a to make a lot of mistakes. Just a few days back I had a 50 ft. hose turned into 10 5 ft. hoses.....Cj

I was able to get the roof wrapped up yesterday before the game. I ended up using some redwood treated with linseed oil for the subframe, and a poly/foam/fiberglass product for the roof. Worked out pretty well, and seems like it will last awhile.
