2nd dog. Same breed or go different

Post by Mk99 » Sun Apr 24, 2022 1:48 pm

I have a Wirehaired Griffon that is about 1.5 years old and looking to get a 2nd dog. I am torn between another Griffon or getting a Drahthaar. From people who have two dogs do you like have 2 different breeds or stick with the same breed. The griffon has been great but the Draht's have always caught my eye. Pros and cons of keeping same vs different?

Thanks

It seems like I've always had multiple dogs. Usually I've had duel purpose dogs, both upland and waterfowl, so as long as breed does both I'm fine, but I had a GSP that didn't like waterfowl hunting so I got a lab/GWP cross that loved water, cold and ducks. Sounds like you have a breed that does both. So go with the Drat or another WPG if you hunt both.

So many nice breeds of dogs to try, so little time and room. If you want to try a different breed, go for it. You aren't going to find anyone who says those aren't both good breeds of dog.
