Aggressive Retrieving

Post by reba » Sun Oct 18, 2020 2:36 pm

I have been hunting my 10 month GSP for a little better than 7 weeks (sage grouse, huns, chukar and quail. Her retrieves are very aggressive. Today she almost swallowed a quail. I don't want to over correct her. Any suggestions?

Reba, is it a hard mouth issue or is it really trying to eat it.

I think it is a hard mouth issue.

Surely wants the bird dead or maybe wants it to squeak like a toy.

Yesterday the quail might have been shot hard exposing lots of yummy meat.

Not unusual for a GSP to be hard mouthed. I think the best way to deal with this is to have a pro put him though a good Force Fetch program...done correctly this can resolve this problem and improve his delivery to hand...
