~ Team Dog Whistler ~ An Update

Post by Irishwhistler » Tue Sep 01, 2020 5:01 am

Aye Mates,

TEAM DOG WHISTLER had a grand time this weekend whilst entered in the Southern Berkshire Golden Retriever Club AKC Hunt Test. The club managed to put on a really nice hunt test event whilst taking precautionary measures to maintain social distancing and sanitation to prevent the likelihood of the transmission of Covid-19. Sorry times we are living in, but such is the reality of things for the time being.

~ TEAM DOG WHISTLER ~ SHR LAKE CHAFFEE'S AUTUMN LEGACY O' TRAD FINIAN MAC JH and HRCH UH TTF CRAIGHORN KIFFIN TRAD SH.

MAC was entered in his 2nd AKC Senior Hunter stake and earned his 2nd qualifying score. MAC is currently 1o for 10 in qualifying scores for the hunt test events he has been entered in. MAC was sired by TRAD and is out of LAKE CHAFFEE'S AUTUMN STARRY NIGHT.

TRAD earned his fourth Master Hunter qualifying score this weekend and needs one more qualifying leg to earn an AKC Master Hunter title. TRAD is entered for his next Master Hunter stake to be hosted by the Long Island Retriever Field Trial Club next weekend. TRAD celebrated his 7th birthday yesterday 8/30/2020.

The hunt tests in both the Senior Hunter and Master Hunter stakes were very challenging and the dog work exhibited was of a very high caliber. Things got a bit harrowing during the third series of the Master Hunter stakes for TRAD and myself. We had moved into the last holding blind and were just about to get called to the line when TRAD sustained a sting from a wasp or hornet. He rolled several times and I believe was trying to get it off of his back, obviously he got hit hard. The judges offered to put us back three places in the running order or offered that we could proceed forward with the test if we wished to do so. An "on the spot" decision made easy, I elected for TRAD to continue running the test and we had a successful third series that consisted of three challenging marks, (two on land and one that required the dog to cross about 50 yards of land, enter a canal, exit the canal, and run about another 50 yards across cover to work in search for the fallen bird, then make the return in reverse order to deliver the bird to the handler.

The hard work of many hunt test volunteers made for a great and smoothly running event. The sportsmanship displayed amongst all participating handlers was outstanding. As with all hunt test events we participate in, old friendships were rekindled and new ones were made.👌

TEAM DOG WHISTLER is trained and handled by yours truly and it is my sincere honor to work with these magnificent Labrador Retriever gun dogs.

Cheers,
THE DOG WHISTLER ☘️🇮🇪🇺🇸

AKC master hunter title tests , retrieving or pointing dog , are serious and it takes a "bleep" good team of dog and handler to pass. Congrats to your teams!
