Brittany 33lbs at 5 months old should I be worried

Post by BigK75 » Sun Jun 28, 2020 4:44 pm

Hey Guys,

Today I went for training with some other Brittany's and one was much smaller then my Cooper. I asked the owner how old he was and was floored when he said 2 years old. I am like WTF. My dog is 5 months old and is 33lbs. I am really worried about this now. Should I be? Am I feeding him too much? We don't want a huge dog but will love him even if he is 60lbs but want him in the range Brittany range. Any thoughts on this. First time dog owner that knows very little so be easy on me :)

Looks fine for that age . Large - sized Brittany. Have a look here. (2.2 pounds = 1 kg)

13.4 * 2.2 = 30 pounds

How much daily exercise is the pup getting? I think sporting breeds need a hard work out daily.

Brittanys can range quite a bit in size and weight. My first Brittany was larger and weighed about 50 lbs. He was never fat or what I would consider overweight. Just a bigger, stockier dog than your normal Britt. I had two females that were close to 40 lbs. and my current 4 year old female is 33-35 lbs. I've seen Britts as small as 25 lbs. and as larger as 50+ lbs. As long as your dog does not appear to be overweight I wouldn't worry about it. Basically, do determine if your dog is the ideal weight you should be easily able to feel the ribs with a small amount of fat covering them. When looking down at the dog from above you should be able to see a visible waist line behind the ribs. You can Google it and get more info on how to check if your dog is too thin, overweight or just right.

Okay awesome. I was getting worried. He seems very healthy and not overweight at all. I exercise him daily. He just seems really stocky. Anyway we adore this dog but I was so shocked when I saw a 2 year Brittany today that was smaller then my 5 month old Cooper.
