Introduction: New guy from Georgia

Hi all,
I'm a long-time reader, first time poster (actually first time posting in any forum ever).
I come from a family of hunters and I'm fortunate in that my parents retired, bought a farm, and started a little quail preserve. I get my fair share of days in the field: mostly doves, quail, waterfowl (middling, but enough for me and the dog), rabbits and the occasional woodcock (some people turn up their noses at the last two, but I can't pass up a flush). When I can't hunt, I like to fish, scout, work the dog, anything to get in the woods.
I have a 4-yr old Boykin Spaniel that I've trained myself (first gun dog).
He's force-fetched, sits to flush and holds until sent, flushes pointed birds (I wouldn't quite say he honors, but he slows down when he sees a point and he can be controlled), and he's trailed a few deer. He still has a ways to go before I would call him finished (heel needs work and steadiness when he's retrieving from my side), but I'll get to that in other posts if I can't figure it out from the posts already out there.
Bird dog(s) of my own are in the 2-3 year plan, but still on the fence between Setter/Pointer, AA/NSTRA, etc... not quite ready to pull any triggers.
Just saying hello, thanks for the good advice out there, and that I'm glad to be joining the conversation.
