Dogtra or Garmin?

In the market for a new collar and have it narrowed down to 2.... the new dogtra 1900s (love the small design like the arc) and the garmin delta sport xc... The garmin I like the fact that it has a built in bark limiter... Huge selling point. But I have heard mixed reviews. My current collar is a dogtra and the 1900s looks like the next way to go. Anyone have any opinions on either unit?

I know you've been using the 2500 Nick. What is the difference between that and the 1900 other than being able to see the screen in the dark?

Actually I have a 300m Element. The reason I'm looking for a new one is that its not working and I've sent it away twice already and think its just time to upgrade. When it did work it was also very low powered, 100 levels but the dog doesn't even feel anything until it gets to about 70 (even on my bare hand it needs to be about 30 to get a twinge of hydro). I would rather have a collar that the dog runs on a low level and I have room to bump it up if needed.

I don't have personal experience with either, but there were a lot of complaints about the garmin delta on another forum I frequent.

I have owned three dogtra collars. All have been awesome collars and performed very well. I would not hesitate to buy another. I recently purchased the Alpha TT15 and it seems to be nice. Lots of gadgets on it though and so far not as useful as a training collar has my Dogtra's because of the size... But it does work well too.

I don't think you can go wrong with either brand.

Sorry . I must have been thinking of someone else. I love the Dogtra 2500B/T . Just moved on to the 2 dog unit.

I have the Garmin and am not impressed, I find that a setting that will work at 25 yds wont work at 50 yds, you have to go up in setting as your dog gets farther away.

I have used Tri-Tronics since 1968, I now have a Pro 500. I am told the replacement Garmin 550 is comparable. That is my recommendation. I just don't care for the backyard class units, go with the best.

According to the experts at collar clinic the Dogtra is the best and has been for the past few years. They rate them by the numbers sent in for repair and how soon after purchase. But Neil is right when you go back far enough. Tri-Tronics used to be best by far. And by the way, they both are qualified to work in the backyard as well as the upland and waterfowl fields.

I own a garmin pro 550 and the dogtra 2500. I use the garmin for training and the 2500 for hunting. The 2500 is smaller and has a beeper in the collar already.

Garmin discontinued the exp receiver. Doesn't that make the pro 500 obsolete if your collar fails? I think that is very poor product support. I am shopping for another used exp receiver on e-bay in case mine fails.

I have the 1900 but only for about a year. It has been great so far. Everyone says they are dependable but obviously I have not had it long enough to comment on that.
