skunk blast
The dogs went tearing out of the house last night about midnight. It's usually coyotes that are yipping. The window was open. All of a sudden I got a big wif of skunk. I shot out of bed and ran for the back door to get the dogs back in the house. To late. The Rot ran up foaming from the mouth. Took a good shot. Long ago I used tomato. All you got was tomato flavored skunk. Then I heard peroxide vinagar and dish soap. Took part of it away but not much better than tomato. Then on here I read peroxide baking soda and dish soap. Worked great!!! One of the times he ran back in the house rolling everywhere. That one took a good long while to go away. Last night I caught him at the back door.

Re: skunk blast
Our terrier just got blasted on Sunday. She killed it and hid the corpse to roll around on later so even though she doesn't smell too terrible now, we know that situation won't last

Here is a recipe for that Skunk Mix....it works exceptionally well. I hear they now make a commercial version, but this works well.
1qt of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 c baking soda, 1-2 tsp Dawn dishwashing liquid.

Skunk Off is the best.

A friend swears by Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover. I bought a bottle and keep it in my truck, just in case he gets hit in the field.

Going to have to put those products on the shelf and try them. That Rot does not like skunks. This is the fifth or sixth time. The short hair must of dodged. She came back in the house last night smelling fine. After the smell test of course. However the peroxide baking soda and dish soap worked great. He is laying at my feet right now and no skunk smell 20 hours later. He sure wasn't a happy dog last night with foam and drool dripping everywhere. You would think he would learn.

Some have to worry about Porcupines also. I grew up in Colorado and had to deal with them with my hound dog I owned as a kid. That dog thought eventually he would be able to kill those darn things....so he got stuck more than once! The last time the critter must have banged him in the rear as he made his retreat, as he had quills in 'Both Ends'! OMG...
Re: skunk blast
we have had good success with Nature's MIracle in the past. Haven't had to use it on this pup yet, but did on our cat (twice! ) and a previous dog. washing with vinegar also helps.Mills51 wrote:A friend swears by Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover. I've had the same experience you have had several times. Had one of our dogs take a direct hit, run back in our cabin and jump in our bed. I have tried them all. The best one for me has been peroxide, Dawn and baking soda.
