Anyone been running dogs in the grouse woods? How's it looking for you?

Heard drumming every time I went out during spring turkey season.

Where I'm training in northern Maine, it is looking pretty good.

It was apparently a good hatch here in New England.

I have been out a few times since mid-July and my dogs have contacted/pointed Grouse
every time. Have heard some drumming as well.

Good to hear everyone. I will be getting my 6 month old pup out soon in hopes of her finding a few grouse and getting some work before the season starts here.

Here in the North country of New York the drumming was very evident during spring turkey season. My Buddy came back to the truck and asked me "why in the world would someone be starting a tractor every three seconds all morning long." I stopped and looked at him very apprehensively and then I heard the sound and he said see now you know what I mean. All I could do is laugh and tell him it was going to be a good grouse season this year.

Went out today and came up empty for grouse, but did find a woodcock.

Are porcupines more of a problem in the summer? I read somewhere they were but I have only encountered them in late fall and early spring.
