Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Just curious what the inside dog folks do when it comes to allowing their dogs on the furniture. My wife is pretty set on not allowing the new pup on the couches, but so far she has given in to the puppies cuteness and need to cuddle lol!
Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Tried to fight it but wife and kids won . Brittany on the couch next to me as I drink my coffee. I kinda like it.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Max is my first dog "ever" that was not allowed on the furniture. Partially because not only was max new but so was the furniture. Easy furniture dog friendly folks Max had gotten a new bed too ! That said the work trucks were his domain. I can still picture him as a pup. His back legs on the seat and his paws on the dash tak'n the sights !
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Yep, but only one couch that can handle it. They are not allowed on any of the others, and they quickly learned that.

That is sort of what I am hoping to accomplish.jetjockey wrote:Yep, but only one couch that can handle it. They are not allowed on any of the others, and they quickly learned that.

Ha, maybe the better question is do your dogs allow u on the furniture. Creek my GSP is constantly stealing my spot on the couch
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Only when I'm sitting on it so we can snuggle.

Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Yep. There is just one rule. The couch is for resting calmly. Any other acts result in a temporary banishment.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Boy isn't that the truth. I feel real good that they allow me on the couch!QuillGordon wrote:Ha, maybe the better question is do your dogs allow u on the furniture. Creek my GSP is constantly stealing my spot on the couch
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
I like the dogs snuggling up to me. The wife doesn't like the hair on her clothes.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Cats know you don't want them on the furniture. They just don't care what you want.
Dogs know and will stay off the furniture. While you are home.

Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
At home my dogs are not allowed on the furniture unless called, and that is very rare. At the cottage yes only because the rest of my family allows their dogs on the furniture.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
when I got my Britt, we already had a geriatric miniature poodle that is more cat than dog. when we adopted the poodle, he was about 5 years old and had clearly been allowed on the furniture by his previous owner. so we quickly gave up trying to keep him down, he is a snuggler.
of course, that meant the Brittany had to be allowed on the furniture, too. just a couch, and occasionally on our bed -- but she sleeps in a crate.

Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
never; but he does own the area in front of the wood stove - he counts it as an annoyance when I try to add more wood
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
My dog hogs the remote control to my big screen TV, I come home from work and he always drank all the beer and leaves empty cans all over the place. Caught him having a beer bong party with the neighbors dogs last week and they trashed the place and raided the frig and bar-b-qued all my steaks, and Cheetos where spilled all over my imported Persian rugs
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Wife bought a couch for me and the dogs. Only furniture any of us are allowed on. Chessy takes up less room than the setter and I get to squeeze into the last 18" of seat...........

Bed by invitation only.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Very true. How about when he does except will he/she roll onto their back and let out a sigh and ask for a belly rub ? That's a Max maneuver for sureMNTonester wrote:never; but he does own the area in front of the wood stove - he counts it as an annoyance when I try to add more wood
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
It sort of worked with my last dog. He knew the upstairs family room couches were off limits. He didn't like it and would do everything he could to convince us he should be laying next to us, but he stayed off. This dog though seems to have the key to my wife's heart so guessing he will do whatever he wants lol!Max2 wrote:luvthemud wrote:That is sort of what I am hoping to accomplish.jetjockey wrote:Yep, but only one couch that can handle it. Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Was always able to keep my Britt off the furniture but wifey's yorkie had free rein. Now this new setter pup has weakened us with cute and he's climbin' on the couch.
There will, however, always be a no dogs in the bed rule. It's a common way to pick up a tick.

Don't tell my wife that rule....I would never be able to sleep in my bed!NEhomer wrote:Was always able to keep my Britt off the furniture but wifey's yorkie had free rein. Now this new setter pup has weakened us with cute and he's climbin' on the couch.

Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Never...not everyone (relatives, friends, company in general) enjoys a medium to large dog on their lap.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
I buy cheap furniture and change it when needed. Dogs matter more to me than furniture. I'm blessed to have a very large house, so I do have a living room/dining room for guests where dogs never get to go.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
I let the Horse in . Am I bad ?
The Goldfish stays in the bowl. I set boundaries Am I mean?.

Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
No, there is still dog hair all over the couch but they are not allowed on the couch, period.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
It's really pretty easy. Even my 8 month old puppy already has it figured out. Set the rules, and they quickly learn how to act, and not act in the house.Max2 wrote:luvthemud wrote:That is sort of what I am hoping to accomplish.jetjockey wrote:Yep, but only one couch that can handle it. Exactly !! That's why Max has his own bed .

Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Neither of mine are allowed on the furniture. I despise dog hair and paid a lot of money for our couch and love seat. They're quite content laying at your feet or on their bed.
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
They are allowed on one couch, one chair, and the bed if invited. Seems to work pretty well with the older dogs. The pup is still figuring it out (or pretending to be figuring it out ).
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Missy is allowed on the couch but only when invited.

Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Yes. They take turns in "their" recliner and sleep at the foot of the bed most every night. Only the Queen Cocker gets to get up on the leather sofa and love seat though.

Some yes, some no, but it also depends on who is on the furniture at the time.

Yes when invited
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
Usually, but lines must be drawn, like when our Yorkie jumped off my lap in the easy chair and 60 pounds of Munsterlander gallumphingly replaced her. That's a No Go and this station, Bud!
Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
The couches, the bed, the truck, the camper and pretty much anywhere else. After the first night allowing my first bird dog in bed cause he was whining in his kennel its been downhill ever since, even though i swore up and down i would never let any of it happen.

Re: Do you allow your dogs on the furniture?
The way it always goes-
1.Dogs are never permitted in the house. The dog stays outside in a
specially built wooden compartment named, for very good reason, the dog
house.
2.Okay, the dog can enter the house, but only for short visits or if his
own house is under renovation.
3.Okay, the dog can stay in the house on a permanent basis, provided his
dog house can be sold in a yard sale to a rookie dog owner.
4.Inside the house, the dog is not allowed to run free and is confined to
a comfortable but secure metal cage.
5.Okay, the cage becomes part of a two-for-one deal along with the dog
house in the yard sale, and the dog can go wherever he pleases.
6.The dog is never allowed on the furniture.
7.Okay, the dog can get on the old furniture but not the new furniture.
8.Okay, the dog can get up on the new furniture until it looks like the
old furniture and then we'll sell the whole works and buy new furniture...
upon which the dog will most definitely not be allowed.
9.The dog never sleeps on the bed. Period.
10.Okay, the dog can sleep at the foot of the bed.
11.Okay, the dog can sleep alongside you, but he's not allowed under the
covers.
12.Okay, the dog can sleep under the covers but not with his head on the
pillow.
13.Okay, the dog can sleep alongside you under the covers with his head
on the pillow, but if he snores he's got to leave the room.
14.Okay, the dog can sleep and snore and have nightmares in bed, but he's
not to come in and sleep on the couch in the TV room, where I'm now
sleeping. That's just not fair.
