first time Grouse hunting in wisconsin

Post by natel24 » Sun Nov 09, 2014 11:49 am

This Thursday and Friday my pup and I are going grouse hunting for the first time. Does anyone have any tips or hints? We are planning on hunting the Chequamegon national forest in northern Wisconsin. I have never been grouse hunting so any help would be much appreciated.

Never hunted there but hunt the thick cover with a mix in it. Conifers, thick patches, and around food is where we found them. It's a lot of fun. Let us know how you do.

Depending on how much snow we get on Monday you may need snow shoes. I just finished a week plus of grouse hunting and as mentioned above the mixed forests is the way to go right now. We didn't find a lot of birds in the popple stands that are great in October. With the snow we do have balsam firs seem to be popular spots for grouse.
