Topo Maps

Post by kcbullets » Sun Nov 09, 2014 11:05 am

I am a new Garmin Astro 320 owner. I plan to use for bird hunting. Any input on the best maps to use and why? I've read a little about the birdseye but pretty pricey. Does anyone use the device with just the factory installed software? Any experienced input is greatly appreaciated.

I use the Great Plains 1:24000 topo by Garmin and love it. You can see potholes and terrain that no one else knows is there. Well worth the 100.00

I am happy with the maps from gpsfiledepot.

Kansas Fish and Wildlife has maps also.

Thanks for input. I downloaded maps from gpsfiledepot. I also subscribed to Birdseye Imagery for the satelite images. Made a couple downloads so far. Still learning but haven't found a way to pull up an address or general location so you can find and mark the area you want to download. Seems diffucult to locate the areas. If you download large areas, very slow; but if you download small areas it is pretty fast. If anyone knows how to find spots quickly I would love to know. That would save time.

You can speed up the transfer time by using a sd card reader/writer rather than going through the Garmin
