Finally pulled plans together for first trip to South Dakota. We may not ever go back but this way we can say we did. Motel is booked liscense are bought just waiting on the end of the month. Are there any people on here that knows if the crops are in or out of the fields around Watertown? We have both already talked and are the same page that we want to have the experience of SD not kill a lot of birds. Also have some English Setter pups that will be 5 months we are bringing just to try some wild bird work. Hope we can meet some new people, have fun, see lots of birds, and maybe shoot a couple.

Beans are about half out, corn has not been touched.

You should be ok at the end of the month. Most guys are looking to start corn soon. Take one day and head to Webster, was up there the other day and lots of birds. It's not too far.

If your into fishing, the Webster area is about as good as it gets.

Whay is the deal with rabies papers? Love to fish but this will just be a hunting and relaxing trip. Thanks again.

Dogs being brought into South Dakota are
required to have a certificate from their local
veterinarian indicating that they are vaccinated
against rabies. A health certificate is not necessary
for dogs traveling to this state with their owners
for less than 30 days.

They arent super hard on the vaccination records, but its advised to have a copy on hand. Im a resident and the only time i have ever been asked about shots was when they were running a check point. I keep mine in an email on my phone and they had no problems with that.

Thanks everyone I went back and found the rules. We wont be fishing but nice to know for the future. Any early reports on how the locals did?

There are a lot more birds this year, still have to work for them but they are there. I've been chasing ducks but still managed a few roosters after our morning set. Ran the dogs through the cattails before going home.

Will be in the area 25th till 31st... have a 9mo. old shorthair looking to put on some miles!

How did you do? The bird population is the worst since we been going there 06 all I have to say is GO WEST.....
