Best Whistle Choice

Post by Mills51 » Mon Jun 16, 2014 12:11 pm

I have a French Brittany pup that I have started training, and would like to purchase a whistle. What whistle do you prefer and why.

Acme Thunderer

I like the pitch overall, kind of the tenor of whistles; some of the high pitched ones make me want to put a pencil through my eardrums  The Thunderer is capable of a big range of sounds so is great for lots of different commands. It's very good in the wind, too.

I like the double sided whistle. This one is different than what most use. I use one side fro recall and the other for HARD downs.

Whichever whistle makes you want to reach for it less would be a good choice.

My God given whistle, won't be mistaken for any other and won't spook birds.

Thanks for the replies, I never used a whistle with my last two dogs. However, I do see the advantages of using them.

For recall (long distance) the Acme Tornado T2000 -- it seems to carry further than the Fox 40.
For everything else Ray Gonia pea whistle.

Roy Gonia was bought out by Sport Dog. My favorite Gonia was the one with removeable side plate's. I carried two, one with the pea in it and one without. Can't get that one any more. So I did get the reg orange one. Doesn't work well at all. I chucked it and went back to my dime store whistle.

Roy Gonia Clear
Supposed a lifetime warranty. I buy at least one or two a year due to having one issue or another with'em. Never tried capitalizing on the warranty before...
