What's On Your "To Do" List Before Next Season ?

Post by Doc E » Sat Jun 07, 2014 9:33 am

What's on your "to do" list before next hunting season ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not much on my "to do" list.
Assemble two new Camo Hay Bale Blinds and take them to the pond at an appropriate time.
Keep the dog tuned up as well as conditioned for Upland birds.
Pattern my new SBE II Waterfowler Special.
Some minor decoy work.
Get my new puppy in September - start training and taking the pup on hunting trips.
That's about all.
To do before next hunting season:
Keep the training going with the pup.
NA and JH tests for my new pup.
Purchase my new 20 ga over/under. Looking at either a Franchi instinct SL or CZ Woodcock.
Plan my hunting trip for this year; either pheasants in SD or Grouse in No. WI. (we take one trip a year, just me and the dog).
I'm sure there is lots of other stuff to do, especially non hunting/dog stuff. Now if only my work schedule and kids schedule let me get half my stuff done.
Finish 1st season training with the pup. He will be 15 months at the start so I'm hoping for some fresh legs and a new hunting buddy. Perhaps run a puppy stake at my first field trial.
Paint and repair fencing on dog runs at the kennel. Repair drip irrigation lines in the back yard ripped up by the pups. Free run the dogs at 5 AM every other day and wrap up training by 8 AM when it gets too hot!
Ahh those lazy, hazy crazy days of summer....
I guess I should shower too.
Build my husband a "workshop" for his 40th birthday - in secret...this is gonna take a bit of finagling to get it done with him none the wiser!
Deer-break two young beagles.
Whoa break (steady up) the year old pointer before he goes to Summer Camp (got a month left - he's on the collar now totally and standing well, just need to add in the birds next).
Get Chessie youngster doing blinds better.
Finish steadying the younger GSP so all of our "hunting dogs" are SWS.
Kayaks and swimming dogs at least 3 days per week - we'll see how this one goes!
Steady, steady and more steady, to get ready for UT test in August
I actually want to take the boy goose hunting and ducks over decoys, we are going to have to figure out how to hide the big white dog 
Build a bird pen
Keep my horse in shape
Create more roading trails through the woods
Get Chloe back in shape by August 1
fish as much as possible.
Train dogs as much as possible.
Get caught up on work so that it does not affect hunting season.
I also have to start going through equipment and updating. Stuff just doesn't last forever.
