Drove 8hrs one way up to minnesota this weekend and picked up my new puppy from Howie Hill of Northwaters-GSPS. Got him home yesterday and he's doing really well so far. I am pretty sure he stepped on something outside other than snow for the first time when we got home. I am planning on joining a navhda chapter either in southern wi or northern il soon to help get him ready for his NA test. I thought i'd post a few pictures cause everyone loves puppy pics.

Just a couple more pics, just to show how similar the markings are between my dog, Hogan, and the new pup, Gibby. It's pretty crazy.

Very nice pup!
With his genetics, he should be a good one!

How fun. Your pup and little girl will both grow up fast. Enjoy this time and get some video as well.

Drove 8hrs one way to get it? I hope it turns out more than you expect. Gotta hand it to a guy that drives that far to pick up a pup. The pup has a good home! :)

8 hours might seem kinda crazy, well it probably is, but if you are gonna put all the time and effort into training it over hopefully a 12+ year commitment its not that far outta line. Heck people drive 20+ hours all the time to go bag a handful of pheasants in SD. Plus my first GSP is a dog i found in the newspaper, not that he hasn't been a good dog, but I knew exactly what i wanted this time around, it just happened to be 8hrs away.

Fun times for the entire family! The resemblance is pretty cool too. Did his markings influence your choice of pups? Since it was that far away, did you just get to see pics before you picked? Or did the breeder pick him out for you? Inquiring minds want the details...... :?:

I'd tell you to have fun, but know you probably already are! :D

I had my choice between two males who were really similar looking, just a coincidence i guess that they ended up looking similar to my current dog (although they do share a few dogs on their pedigrees back a couple generations), the females looked a lot different. I had seen the pics of them on their website before hand and only picked one versus the other because he was paying more attention to me.

Took some more pics of the pup the other day after our middle of april snow fall, so i thought i'd share a few. The pup is doing great so far. He come's when called, is sitting and holding there for quite awhile and the best part is he has had only a few accidents in the house. Our other dog is finally warmed upto him also.

I flew to Iowa from MA to pick up my first GSP.
Once you find the right breeding for you, do whatever you need to do to get the pup.

Best of luck with him!

I just got my pup from this litter last night. What an awesome little dog.

I had her flown into me. Last year I drove 15 hours each way to get my first GSP. That was enough driving to convince me that flying the next pup in would be the better choice.

Gibby, my 14 week old pup, and I did a little training tonight on some planted pigeons and some retrieving training. Still amazed at what he's been capable of so far. His obedience has been rock solid and tonight he found 3 out of the 4 pigeons I had planted, all in grass taller than he is. And after giving a reward for a little while he is now retrieving the bumper and is very enthusiastic about it. He was introduced to gunfire several weeks ago. Once I get a little larger supply of pigeons I'm gonna start shooting some of the planted birds. All of this with what i would call a mediocre trainer, myself. As you can probably tell I'm a very proud papa.

I have started working Gibby's litter-mate, Annie, on JH quail that I have recalling. I thought to take this picture this morning.

Annie is looking good. We have ^Tug pointing ,retrieving , and he's a muskrat in the water. Tug goes swimming just because the water is there.

I've been working Diesel, their litter mate, on gun fire this past week. Planning to start working her on birds next week once I get a few of my young birds that are ready to start homing back.

I hope you are being extra careful with the gun and no birds.
It's tons cheaper to loose a few young birds than it is trying to fix a gun shy puppy.
I would recommend leaving the pop gun at home and try to get that puppy really excited about finding and pointing birds.
Then I would start to introduce the popgun into the situation.
JMHO.

For the gun intro I'm using carded birds. She has no adverse reactions to the noise.

Got gibby out in the creek behind the house this afternoon and took a few pics. He has really taken a liking to the water and is now retrieving whatever I toss out there. I continue to be impressed with him, he's making me look like a pro trainer (ok, maybe just a competent trainer).
