Wanting to get a set, curious what information do you all put on your metal tags?

I have my name, address, and cell phone number. Is there a reason for not listing an address?

I use my name, my home phone then my cell. I don't put my address because if my dogs get lost it won't be close enough to home for anyone to bother with. Plus my house is on a very remote lake with no cell service but I can always check my home messages or forward to my cell when away. My next tags will include my email addy though.

Why do you not put the dogs name on it? Do you think someone is more likely to keep your dog if they know his/her name as opposed to just having telephone numbers. Thanks.

I like the e-mail address idea, that way the finder won't have to make a long distance phone call and find me not at home. I might do that on my next set of name plates (along with the phone numbers), unless someone has a reason that wouldn't be a good idea??? :)

Do any of you put anything about your dog being chipped and which company the chip is with?

I had the same question some time ago and I went with my name and as many phone numbers that can fit on the tag one of which being mine. My reason for only putting one of my numbers on the tag is if someone is willing to call the numbers I want them to talk to someone as soon as possible and if for some reason they cant get through to my phone the people which the other numbers go to have directions on what to do if my dog is found.

All mine are double tagged, no dog name, my name, my cell and email (I don't have a home phone) and several other numbers. I do have city and state.

Ezzy will say I'm wrong for this, but I've had people call urgently trying to get me a dog back... I put "needs meds daily" on my collars too.

I got name plates and got 2 of then, one i put my name, #, address and city/state
The other i put my dads name, #, address and "needs meds daily"

The needs meds daily part is only to encourage someone who has found (or stolen) the dog to return it quickly.
some people like to put "reward if found" but i dont see it as that important, i will reward them anyway

If you use it much, I'd definitely do it. It's so common in this era of smartphones.

I put REWARD on mine as well as two cell numbers. I get my collars from gundogsupply and they include a nameplate. I don't do hanging tags, I've lost too many through the years (especially with those darn beagles).

I urge you to chip your dog as well, if you haven't already. Having seen firsthand during the Joplin tornado, how quickly chipped dogs are reunited with family, I have since chipped all of our dogs.

I've seen two dogs hung/caught by hanging tags.

I second the microchipping.

I put my name and my wifes name, "reward", my cell and my wife's. If someone is stealing the dog to sell or thinking of keepi g the dog they found, the reward marking may get my dog back. I use our cell numbers because they can reach me when on hunting trips where the dogs are more likely to be lost. I think most people are inclined to be honest. Some just need nudge inthat direction. The reward or needs meds marking nudges those people. Self serving people may be more motivated by the enticement of a good amount of money than whether a dog needs meds or ignore it as a ploy to put that on a dog's collar as plastered across these internet sites. Less than honest people use the internet too.

I've returned the same lost lab to the owner twice by calling the phone number on the collar. The first time was five years ago. The second time was two weeks ago. The phone number was the only useful information on the collar I concerned myself with both times. I didn't give a rat that the dog's name was on there or the fact that the city and state was on there. I just called the number and said I had their dog.

While I do have my dogs chipped, I that will only be of benefit when professional sevices such as a vet or animal control have your dog and the collar tag is missing. Not many average people have a scanner nor carry it if they do own one. In some cases a scanner may not be locally available.

In the south, many dogs are stolen to be put in the fighting ring. Do you think "needs meds" will deter that. Good people don't want a reward or know the dogs name either so why clutter up the tag with useless info.

Good people will make the call, bad people won't and thieves don't care.

Then apparently the two times people called with that on the tag freaking out that they had my sick dog were just in my dreams.

I had a dog lost without that on his tag, took the guy that found him 2 days to call, and he wouldn't take the $100 I tried to give him.

It's all just hope & wishing on this tag stuff, IMO. The phone number is the only information a person needs to get a dog back to you if he's inclined to do it. If that doesn't work, the rest of the stuff on the collar is hope & wishing the finder will be swayed by a few words.

Re-read my statement. Honest people will make the call and dis-honest wont. Regardless of what is on the tag....I never quoted you or told you that you were dreaming so get off of it brother Tex. Your examples only prove my point.

Well fine then, we agree.

I still don't wanna though!

Many years ago I bought Dunn's locate collars. They had instruction's with an 800 # to call Dunn's and find out where the dog belongs. Well I did lose a pointer with that tag on. About three weeks later a guy came into the store in Madras where my wife worked and was talking about the dog that wandered in. Sure enough it was my Kate.Turned her loose just outside madras and she showed up 26 miles away. The guy called Dunn's twice trying to find out where she belonged and then gave up. Dunn's told him that they didn't know what he was talking about. The only ph #'s needed on my collar's now are mine! Really bummed me out with Dunn's.

There is a GPS system called TAGG that will track your dog all over the country. You can track it on your computer or smartphone. Its not expensive and although I have never tried it, it looks promising for those dogs that you would "truly" hate losing.

As for the leather collars with tags on them? I just got one yesterday from Winners Circle and it is the best that I have seen to date. I will be ordering more but I will add my email.
