working on a good stance
working on a good stance
How early do you start working with a pup to get it to get a good bench stance? my Brittany pup has about 3 seconds of attention span but will stand good 1 out of 10 times.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Why do you want your dog to stand on a bench?
Re: working on a good stance
I wondered the same thing. I wouldn't trouble a pup about the manner in which it stood.

I interpreted it as "stacking" for bench shows?
Re: working on a good stance
I could be and probably am but isn't it part of the whoa training ? and no I have no intent on showing. I thought you trained it so when you whoa a dog and he is on point he holds his head high and tail up am I wrong?

Only if you care about that stuff. Personally I think a dog should point however it's genetics tells it to.big_fish wrote:I could be and probably am but isn't it part of the whoa training ? and no I have no intent on showing. Re: working on a good stance
I simply give my pup a "good boy" whenever he holds a nice point. I don't care how high his head is, etc... as long as he is intense. Let the pup point however it wishes... just giving it a little love on a nice one.

Working on a good stance is fine but it has little to do with pointing posture.

But it has alot to do with backing posture. I do think it can help with the point too. You cant train style but you can help it. To do so you have to start young.
