Chewing options for a 4 month old lab
Just curious what you guys use as chews for your pups. My lab is an very powerful chewer, so most edibles are not an option, and I don't use rawhide. I have a non-edible nylabone that he isn't very interested in. What is working best are cow tendons, but he goes through 1-2 a week at about $8 each.
I've also heard it's a bad idea to give a hard chew to a 4 month old pup, but I don't see any other options. I tried a frozed washcloth (as recommended), but after about two minutes he starts breaking pieces off of it.
Any input is much appreciated.

My pup likes old socks, tied in knots. Those are the only things she gets to chew. We had a square stuffed fuzzy dice that she also liked. My son also gave her one of his shin guards from soccer. She really likes that too.

Elk antlers. There are several online sources.
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

kongs are great, especially the ones you can push a milkbone in ....
The second kick from a mule is of very little educational value - from Wing and Shot.

Another good use of the kong is to fill it with canned dog food and freeze it. Keeps them busy for a few hours

If he's a hard chewer, invest in a "Goughnut," available online. Indestructible.

Freeze 1:4 broth to water in bread pan or pie tin. Should be 2" thick or more. Put a handful of dog food in for good measure. Remove from tin by runni g hot water over upside down pan/tin. Supervise but should help calm urge and is cheap.

My dog always seemed to prefer my wifes tennis shoes, Redwing work boots, and coffee tables, washed down with Sam Adams beer.
Why own a dog? There's a danger you know,
You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.
There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger.
While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger.

I've sanded several teeth marks out of furniture. A little plastic wood, light stain, spit polish and you are good to go!Fester wrote:I had one eat the runner off an Ethan Allen rocker
I had a pup once chewed off the corner of my Delmar Smith book by Tarrant. Not sure if she was seeking revenge...

Thank you all for the input.
Is there any reason to avoid hard chews during the teething process?

Just bought my GSP on of these and she has yet to destroy it!! It keeps her busy for hours. I wish I would have run across this a year ago.

Thanks for the suggestions. Rush is enjoying his GOghnut as well as his black kong. I will start introducing antlers in a month or so when he's done teething.
Here are a couple pictures of him with the Goghnut if anyone is interested.
