...Is ready for vacancy, well just about anyway. Took a lot longer than I thought, never built anything without power saws like this before, I left all that stuff back in NC. All I had was a 12v cordless drill and a shark tooth Stanley hand saw. I did borrow a sawzall for the hole for the pigeon door and also the aviary hole.

Looks good. I'm a pretty advanced weekend carpenter (with most tools you can think of) and have built a few things with basic hand tools. It makes me better appreciate the buildings, furniture etc. that were built years ago. Those guys must have been some kinda craftsmen!

Less than $200 but I used a lot of recycled materials, got the roofing from a friend who had some extra and I got a lot of the sheathing (minus the panel sheathing on the outside) from a friend who had some quarter pieces left from a foundation form. The floor is stick on tiles from left-overs that were in my garage after the land lord had the kitchen floor done. Had some left over hinges also (2 pair). If I bought everything it probably would have come to $350. Oh yeah, my boss had a roll of half inch mesh that I used for the screens and aviary, probably going to have to pay him back on that though.

I am a little concerned that the pigeons might get a bit cold seeing as I live at 7500k in Colorado and I can't close the aviary or entrance. Anyone with experience know if this will be OK? It has been known to get down to -20 deg F in bad cold snaps here at night. I could rig up a door for the aviary and screw a piece of sheathing to the varmint door I made for the entrance and take that off in the spring. Somehow I feel that they will be fine though, seeing as they survive in the cities and in barns.

FLAW... well a couple really. So I designed my loft with the two vents facing south thinking that the sun could warm up the loft during the day, however, that puts the aviary at the north side (so I can look at them from my house.. silly i know) Well I didn't realize how sunshine is the only thing those birds care about and now they are all crowding the vents and sitting in their water and food. I can rotate the loft, but the legs are buried and the ground is frozen now

Second flaw is that my small access door is too small for doing any cleaning, so I will have to use the main front door and hope no pigeons escape on me, what I might do is shove them all in the aviary first and block it off to clean, ugh live and learn

Can you build another aviary on the other side.

Put an aviary on the south side and use the vents for access for the birds.

The other side is where the boxes are. I've got a friend coming by monday to help me dig it out and switch it around. It has been unseasonably warm here, so hopefully we won't have to do much with the pick axes
