pants or chaps
which do yall prefer chaps or pants?
Re: pants or chaps
Chaps!! They help keep you warm in cold weather, and the tin metal type keep out the cactus pretty well.
Re: pants or chaps
I wear Filsons, even at work. I get tired of buying new pants after having them ruined. One week I ruined three pairs of pants, if I would have had chaps I would maybe have had a hole in them.

Did you mean :"shiny moons"??Chukar12 wrote:Darned Arkies and their moon shine
When foot hunting I prefer pants with facing that will turn briars. The less weight I have to carry around and the less restricted my wheels are, the better I like it. It is also how I grew up, so there is a habit and a comfort level there. When trialing I prefer chaps because they do double duty...protect my legs from chafing while riding and protecting them from briars when flushing. The horse is carrying the extra weight for the most part, so...no big deal.

Re: pants or chaps
I wear chaps when I am hunting places where there thickets and briars but I agree, they can be a little heavy and tiresome.

Re: pants or chaps
Never chaps...tires the legs.
Lightweight pants, light cordura facing and a size large with suspenders.
Not great aganst multiflowery and greenbrier but no big deal.

Re: pants or chaps
don't mean to venture from the OP but I am a big guy and am looking to pick up some gear before the season starts up. I need to find a pair of chaps. Everything I have seen on line so far has all the frillies on it. I just want a plain pair of full length western chaps. Didn't want to start a new thread for it. Any help on a great place would be great.
As for the OP, I prefer brush pants if I am walking. I agree with RayG. I have enough to carry as it is, but when it comes to horseback, a great pair of chaps can make the day go just right.

I'd skip the western kind and get a pair of Filson Tin Cloth chaps. They have different sizes....the husky size is perfect for bigger legs. They even have a womens size now. I just got mine for Christmas and love them!!! You can't go worng with Filsons, and they are very lightweight.
Re: pants or chaps
No perfect single solution to all situations.
I have lightweight brush pants I like to wear when I'm hunting or working dogs from foot. I have a pair of Filson Double tin pants for hunting in extreme weather or in nasty cover.
I also have a pair of Fislon single tin chaps and two pair (medium and light) of LCS chaps.
I find that I wear the lightweight stuff more often than the rest but they all work well in the correct situation.
If I had to pick a single pair to use for everything, it would be the Filson single tin chaps.

Re: pants or chaps
I've just wore upland pants or grouse pants as I call them for years. However this past season my hunting partners were wearing chaps and I started to see the benefits. So for Christmas I got some chaps (cabelas stonewall) and will wear them today in the field.
Re: pants or chaps
Thanks for the help. I have only ever wore the western style. I will check them out right now.bigsugar wrote:jcbuttry8 wrote:don't mean to venture from the OP but I am a big guy and am looking to pick up some gear before the season starts up. Re: pants or chaps
I wear suede chaps for trialing and Pants for rabbit hunting. Nothing beats a good pair of pants in the briars.
@ Joe Here's a link for the suede chaps Joe. http://cheshirehorse.com/Barnstable-Eng ... 4C140.aspx.
The suede chaps hold you like glue to the horse and do real well at protecting you when you flush. I had a pair of oilskins for trialing and they were better than jeans, but not even close to the suede. They are also warm as heck. Even in November at Flaherty, I still wore shorts underneath them and stayed warm. And yes they do make them in "Men's Sizes" for well built guys.
PS....I want to hunt with Cherrystone
