Tess went to the vet 5 days before the pictures were taken and had gained around 8-9 lbs. She started out in the area of 32 lbs and was 40 lbs on 8/23 with around 25 days remaining.

And 7 days left (this was taken on Saturday).

Image

So today she "officially" has 4 days left, but she looks like she's going to EXPLODE! Her temp was down slightly this morning, 1.2 degrees lower than last night and she ate her breakfast, so it's probably nothing, but I left the heat lamp on in the whelping box in the event she decides to deliver during the day, just in case.

Check her temp morn then again near noon time if you can ..if her temp stays down then you know it is getting closer ..if it comes back up it will be a bit still

Thanks knine. I'm at work, so I'll take her temp when I get home at 5:00 p.m. I'm thinking probably a false alarm, but left the heat lamp on just in case.

When that temp dips below 99 degrees you are within 6 -8hours of whelping. Her temp will start to drop slightly a few days ahead of time but it will need to drop to 98.9 or less before she will be ready to bring them into the world. How many did she have in her first litter? How many were in HER litter when she was born?
Good luck and Congrats....know you have been waiting a LONG time to do this breeding. :D

Her last litter was 7 pups (5 girls, 2 boys), not sure how many were in the litter she came out of though.

Her temperature is all over the place. I bought a new 10 second digital thermometer for this. Sunday & Monday her temp was between 100 and 100.3. Tuesday morning it read 98.8, last night it was 100.7. This morning it was 98.7. I'm wondering if I should stop at CVS and buy a new thermometer or if her temp is really that erradic.

She decided last night that she hates her whelping box (she's been sleeping in it and being fed in it for 10 days now, just to get her used to it without any issues), and barked for an hour straight until I went downstairs and slept in the recliner, then she was quiet. She better whelp soon...I'm not sure my back can take another couple nights in a recliner.

That is where getting the temp in mid afternoon helps If you can get it as they will bounce around. I think they do that to drive us nuts

Karen, when I bred Jasmine this spring, I had the same problem with the temperature. I took it every morning and night. My vet said that I should compare morning temps to morning temps. Not sure if that is true or not as it was her only litter (so far!). Hope it goes well for you!!!

She may change her mind if she can't have a little bit of privacy. I'll bet she has that litter when they are due and she is ready. You will know when you notice a pup or two in the box.

That will save you all this worry.
