Cool video & photos!

How close were you? They sure don't seem scared of strutting their stuff out in the wide open. Do a lot of them get picked off by predators in doing so?

Thanks, always a fun thing to do! My wife and I snuck in before daylight and set up a two person ground blind (they were already dancin' in the full moon though so we kind of wandered thru 'em to set up). They ranged from >100yds to 5ft. from us - probably 50 or 60 of 'em at this spot I'd guess but hard to tell - they kind of come and go. They are in the open for sure - occasionally "everyone" freezes when something startles them and they all hunker down, they all sit tight until one of them decides the coast is clear, makes a sound/starts dancing then they all resume gettin' jiggy with it as if on cue. Really entertaining. I was pretty focused on taking pics but my wife really studied them and could predict what was going to happen based on their sounds and body movements - I was amazed. A really fun thing to do if you ever get the chance. We sit it out in the blind till they essentially quit dancing and we're not seeing any hens roaming around - today when we figured we weren't messing with them, we just stood up in the blind and sort of ambled out of there to the car like two dudes in a horse suit or something!!

I shot my 70-300mm lens on my Sony A700 and used my little Kodak Playsport on a Hague Mini Motion gimble with a 2x tele converter. Video not great obviously but fun to watch I think.

Great footage. I have only ever seen a Sharp-tailed lek from the air when we survey for them. It's a lot cooler your way, rather than at 90 mph at 150 ft!
