OFFER SOME HELP OR DONT COMMENT

Post by GUNDOGS » Sun Feb 20, 2011 12:49 pm

Well i have been on the forum for about a month now and for the most part have learned quite a bit from people who take the time to CONSTRUCTIVELY give advice or info based on experience!!! BUT i have noticed that when some advice is needed and other members post a question SOME people answer rude or sarcastically (not in a funny way)..I understand alot of the questions may be repeats as some members (including myself) may not have seen past posts due to being new but my suggestion is if you dont want to help the person in a respectful way and you are annoyed by their question then DONT RESPOND TO IT..we all need advice or help now and then and what goes around comes around so think before you write...JUST SAYIN....ruth

I have to say this works both ways, some ask questions & then get upset because they didn't get the kind of answer they wanted. We all have different opinions so if you might be offended by some ones opinion don't ask the question.

I agree with taxidermy.
Hopefully my comment is considered rude since I just disagreed with the OP. :D

TYPING WITH ALL CAPS ON THE INTERNET IS CONSIDERED YELLING!!!!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist that one  :D

I read a variety of forums for lots of different interests of mine. I'd have to say that the "tone" here on GDF is comparable to most others, and definitely on the higher end of "civility" compared to some that allow all language, etc.

Once you post a message on the internet, you have zero control over how others will respond, even if you try to take control. What you have control over is your own reaction to any response, and what, if anything, you type as a response.

I don't much enjoy arrogant, sarcastic, patronizing, or condescending responses either.

Jim Rome, radio sports program host, regularly implores callers to his radio show to "have a take and don't suck."

To me, that means "bring thoughtful information" or bring nothing.

Anyway, I know where you are trying to take this thread, GUNDOGS, but I've never, ever seen a single one of these work as intended. Good luck. :)

i didnt say a "difference of opinion" is rude or sarcastic vonzeppelinkennels..we all have difference of opinions thats far from my point..i myself dont mind discussing things i believe to be true amongst others who have different views or experiences thats the point of a forum..its when someone posts a concern/question to other members and they are looking for some helpful constructive advice..you dont have to demean someone in order to get your point across on here..i have seen it and think its just useless to others trying to learn as well..if a few people are going back and forth with each other and are ok with that kind of talk thats one thing but if someone is posting an honest concern and is looking for help theres no need for the rude remarks from some..theres people that are helpful by providing info that will help a member out, and then theres the people that just want to make members feel like an idiot and make sarcastic remarks that do not benefit anyone reading the post..so my point was no need to say ANYTHING if you cant say it with some help...ruth

Your answer in a nut shell.
And the other side of the coin is take any good answers you may get to your questions and ignore any you consider otherwize, works both ways.

I think being anonymous must bring out a certain boldness that wouldn't exist face-to-face. I know that when I go to a trial or to a hunt test, folks are always really polite and helpful, so it can't be just owning a gun dog that causes it...

Maybe in the evenings, occasionally, a little more "liquid boldness" is involved??

Ruth what I ment by my above reply is that some OP's ask a question & don't like the answers then they respond in a rude, sarcastic,or condescending manor.I have read almost all of your posts scence you have joined & you seem to take exception to alot of what you read.Just sayin :)

i do like to see people just get answers to their questions with some encouragement..i mean sometimes theres some pretty serious issues on here and a member is at their witts end and is asking for help..what does a rude comment accomplish?..i have NEVER replied to a POSTER with a rude comment ...but again i am not talking about say you and i having a discussion about dogs and i say my opinion and you say yours and we go back and forth debating our issue...i am simply talking about a member asking a question and another member posting a reply with no point or help or merit to it but only a sarcastic rude remark to the poster..whats the point!! i myself for example like to read other posts to not only share my thoughts or experience on the subject but also to read other members posts to learn from their thoughts and experience as well..if someone debates or disagrees with my advice or thoughts on a post fine..that again is not what i am talking about..i think of say a classroom full of students and a child asks the teacher a question..if the teacher answers the question the hole class learns..if the teacher answers with no knowledge and answers with sarcasim nobody has learned a thing and the question remains unanswered..not that everything posted on here has to be a lesson i know sometimes people just want to shoot the sh!! and have a civilized disagreement and i am not talking about that...as i said thats not what caused me to post this.....ruth

Actually taxidermy nobody hurt my feelings at all..its just an observation ..it wasnt even comments made to me..and it wasnt just once i have seen it...im not goin to start giving out names and cause more issues and arguing..and i NEVER made it sound like its happening all the time..read the other posts on here i specifically said to AZDOGGIN that its not the norm but has happened..definitely not all the time..i like this forum ALOT thats why i am always on here..i havent had a problem with anyone really..well maybe a few  ..but what i am talking about is for instance a member posts " my dog got a way from me while hunting and wouldnt come back to me what should i do" and a comment like " you shouldnt own a dog if you cant handle it" says nothing and is pointless..almost all of us have at some point had a dog get a way from us while hunting or training it happens often..so to tell someone they shouldnt own a dog and not offer help instead is pointless!!..can you imagine this being said to a fellow hunter to his face..i cant..i can give other examples too but what will happen is members will start arguing with me about their comment and just suggest i or others dont read a post if we dont want to get offended..well whats the point of being a forum member if you cant read threw posts , learn and share knowledge..AGAIN not the norm on here but i have seen it and i do know i have gotten pm's from members that dont want to post a question cause it would just be picked apart..also i feel alot of new members dont post questions and maybe thats why!!..again i want to make it clear..its not the norm..its NOT debates between members on a post that are disagreeing that i am talking about..i actually like those because i like to see different point of views and i like that all of us are passionate about our dogs and our knowledge..i have NO problem going head to head with people on here im not made of glass!!its specifically when a member post a question for help and gets a rude degrading comment back instead of advice..i dont know ho to explain it any better....ruth

Oh ya and to also make something REALLY clear while we are on the sarcasim subject..i am NOT talking about funny sarcasim or teasin someone in good fun ..i think some people on here are hilarious!! for example mcbosco giving ezzy a healthy alternative to icecream by posting a link to the food network..or twofeathers saying he could find mcbosco in a crowd since he likes stinky foods to feed to his dogs..now thats funny!!...ruth

If it is not the norm, Why point it out?
On the other hand some folks can't take pure unfiltered truth. That is not rude just not always pleasant to here. Some people need to be put in their place. Not that I could.

The reason i pointed it out is like i said i think that more members would ask questions openly and get lots of different answers to compare if they thought the answers would not be with such sarcasim..not everything is pleasant to hear i know..my world is not made of a bed of roses and wonderful conversations believe me i deal with all kinds of people with different personalities daily, worked at a casino for 10 years with ALL KINDS of people and i am the mother of 5 daughters who all know more than me :? ..but any person being made to feel like a moron by someone is rude and unnecessary..i got a pm a few minutes ago from a member who pretty much summed up the whole issue "people without common knowledge respond with ignorance" couldnt have said it better myself......ruth :D

I think we all understand that some posts are not as compassionate as others and some posters could be less abrasive but by and large we don't have much of a problem on this board. Much of that is due to the quality of the members and there desire to help.

Does this say that every post and poster will measure up to anyone's standards? I don't think so, since the people who question the others are often just as guilty. I think they call it human nature which varies quite often due to other things going on. Maybe someone has 5 girls nagging at her or someone else has other members making waves and suddenly their posts are not always as sweet and gentle as they could be. But the one thing that has been found to be true is when some one is offended by a post it is their problem and not the poster unless everyone reading it is offended. And on a board like this we try very hard to make sure no one is offending everyone else. And we do try to smooth down some of the rough edges on others posts.

We can not as a board make everyone happy and you as a poster can not make everyone happy but there is no need to get offended by small things that we might do different if we are having a good day because on that bad day we may be just as bad if not worse.

Just do your best and accept what isn't so good. Most of the people who you are questioning are your friends.

I think this is it exactly! The folks who talk crap and act all hard online are the ones who'd pee their pants if you looked at them wrong in real life. They have to feel important somehow.
I understand why you would think this way, but I have to respectfully disagree. Words only make up about 30 percent of the meaning. Body language, facial expression and tone of voice make up the rest. When you are face to face, you can use the exact same words and get a totally different reaction. I know this from experience and training that I have had.

Ezzy, I wish you the best with your hip situation. I guided a hunt yesterday and could barely get out of bed this morning. :(
