Figuring it out......

Post by Elkhunter » Mon Jan 17, 2011 8:07 pm

My young dog is coming along great, I was a little nervous at first since he as always busting birds and did not seem to really figure it out. The last three trips he has had 4 covey finds and I am finally killing birds over him. Here are a few pictures of him from this weekend, he pointed this covey from quite a distance. Biggest covey I have seen all year, prob 30ish birds. He stood these for about 5-7 minutes while I hoofed it over to him. I was proud of my hunting companion! He is out of a Sir Lancelot male and a Millers White Powder female.

They were about 50-60 yards below him, it was optimal scenting conditions though. Good breeze coming up the canyon and it was fairly humid. There were quite a few so I don't know how much of a feat it was! It seemed like the whole mtn erupted and I started pulling the trigger! :D Emptied the old wingmaster and got one bird!

great pictures. Its always fun when they finally figure things out and can go on auto pilot when you head out and all you have to worry about is enjoying the work and hitting the birds when they get up.
Scott

no dogs currently, looking for a new pup probably a setter.

Forget about the ending and enjoy the story that takes you to the ending
