Re: quail in Iowa
You may want to contact Iowa DNR to be on the safe side. Here's what my thoughts are, during season bag limits apply while training also. That is if you are going to shoot them un-banded.After season you can purchase bands from the Iowa DNR to put on your birds and use for training. I had to do this with some pheasants I purchased for training out of season. This even pertains to private property. I may be wrong but I think there was a limit as to how many bands I could purchase. I got ten but think I remember wanting more but may not have been able to. Again I may be wrong and contacting DNR would be your best bet.

When I buy my quail at a place in Council Bluffs, a game bird farm, he give me a reciept stating the quail are not wild birds and of course the amount paid.

Where are you buying the quail in Iowa, as I am looking to buy some this spring for our jonny houses. I have been buying them from a guy in Ne and they are the best birds I ever had but would like to find something closer to me at a decent price. Would also be interested in some chukars.

Re: quail in Iowa
Used to be a guy right in Council bluffs that sold quail, but he usually tried to get rid of all his quail before the snow flew. His name is Clarence--phone number is 712-322-3581. If you don't have any luck with him, try Clayton Maahs down south of Lincoln.(402-217-1814)--sometimes he carries quail thru the winter months(but winter quail aren't cheap!!!)

I use the one mentioned above and these guys from CB for pheasants. I have bought from the Ashland dude Doug, I have known him for many years but it is too far to drive for a few birds.
