I shot one of those last Saturday, there are limited number of the spicies in N. NV.
If I deciphered you pic right and you are hunting on the boarder where I think you are I have never seen them in that range they are usually further north. I have however seen quail tracks in that specific range that would not be typical of valley quail.

Were you up in the desert or back in the timber somewhere...? This was the second time I ran across this covey in rimrock with just a little juniper.

You can legally shoot 2 of those where the dog is standing on the rock in the bottom picture and 10 on the ridge over the dogs back.
you are good...same mountain range just the north end of some pretty popular field trial grounds...

That is interesting...I always hunt them on either side of Donner summit or over in the Sierra Valley...Stampede/Prosser etc..The covies that I know of are not in the timber a few scatered juniper but more typical of chukar terrian.
