WPG or Pudelpointer for ducks?

Post by Jodi_K » Sun Dec 05, 2010 6:38 pm

We are thinking about getting another dog for hunting ducks. We are looking at either a wirehaired griffon or a pudelpointer . We currently own a wirehaired griffon who is excellent in the field with upland birds, but she won't retrieve ducks or geese. She is just two and we are working with her, but we also want a second dog. Any advice?

PP all day. Look at Cedarwoods kennels pics of dogs entering the water.

Have a Cedarwoods dog flown in. They are just that good. http://www.pudelpointer.org/Breeders.html there is a list of breeders.

have a young pup from Dan right now. Can not say enough good things about him and his dogs. I lived in VT and hunted with him for upland bird.

One of our hunts followed a morning hunt, that he was out with his dog in mid Dec on Lake Champlain hunting ducks. It is big open water that is extremely hard for a dog to work and the dog still ran well that afternoon for upland bird.

I think that you would be very pleased with one of his dogs.

Got my PP from Bob at Cedarwood. Top notch dogs, lines, service, etc. all the way. He's more than willing to accomodate shipping a dog as well.

Look up the North American Pudelpointer Alliance, i think its pudelpointer.org. There are probably a couple of breeders semi near you. All of them put out great dogs, all have breeding standards that they have to meet. Bob Farris of Cedarwoods is one of the founding members...

Thanks for the info! We spoke with Bob at Cedarwoods. He seems very noligable and friendly. We will also be calling Dan in Vermont. We are looking forward to getting Allie a new sister and hunting partner. Merry Christmas everyone! :D
