Pointers on the couch???
Pointers on the couch???
ok... the current delema at our house with the new pup is... do we let her on the couch or not? our old lab Ruff was not... although he was known to sneak a nap or two when no one was paying attention... but he was 90 lbs and the pointer pup won't get that big so... what's the rules at your house???

Re: Pointers on the couch???
I think different people want/allow different things. Our two V's are allowed on the couch. But they sleep in bed with us too. We have two spoiled dogs for sure!
Re: Pointers on the couch???
My GSP was never allowed on the couch, 2.5 years, and never a problem. He was taught early on it was off limits and would hit his bed or kennel when tired. Then came the problem, my girlfriend moved in with her lab mix and that dog is a couch potatoe. My shorthair was confused and I felt bad so now I have two couch potatoes.

Re: Pointers on the couch???
my lab and my GSP are both allowed on the couch but, they both know that when I say get down its time to find a new place to loaf
A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.
Re: Pointers on the couch???
No couch. Mine isn't nor he is allowed upstairs and he sleeps in the mud room at night.
Re: Pointers on the couch???
My dogs sleep where ever they want. Normally that is in bed with me. Can't help it, that is how it has been since I was 5 years old. My family always let the dogs have full run of the house, and so do I.

Mine are allowed to do as they please as well. Couch....bed...whatever. I am surprised at the number of people in my NAVHDA group that allow the same. Dogs=kids so.......
Re: Pointers on the couch???

Re: Pointers on the couch???
My pointer sleeps in the mud room on a dog bed, and understands that the edge of that bed is as far as he goes. He also knows to stay on the floor of the truck when I let him ride in the cab. I like my dogs, but want to keep my wife happy, and don't like the dog hair all over the furniture or truck seats.

Re: Pointers on the couch???
I always try to keep my GSP off the furniture, especially when I go home to my mom's house. He knows when to get off, however, he loves taking naps on my bed. I try to get him off and then he gives me this face.. How could I say no?

... man... someone could write a book on a statement like that... our lab wasn't allowed on the couch but he would sneak it if no one was home... well once he got old, he lost alot of his hearing and us coming home wouldn't wake him up... then he'd look p at you with that "oh crap!" look and slink off... it was funny.

Ditto, no matter what breed has come into our house...GSP, Golden, EP, Setter. They learn the "rules" and love it...mcbosco wrote:No couch. Mine isn't nor he is allowed upstairs and he sleeps in the mud room at night.

Re: Pointers on the couch???
mine have access to the couch and they use it sparingly, my female more than the others.
I have one of the nice cabelas dog/couch covers and works well, they are;t hard on the couch
just now and then like to lay up there....They are very good about being turned off in the house
and having very little impact besides hair.

Mine isn't allowed on the couch, bed by invitation only. Same rules for the wife's chihuahua and Redbone Coonhound...
I have English Pointers because they don't ever grow up either...

That's a no for me for both my lab and setter. The have their multiple beds with a couple of them being made out of 4 inch memory foam under a big stuffed bed so they find them very comfortable.
