Astro 220 Carrying Case

Post by M1Tanker » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:10 pm

What are y'all using for a field carrying case for your Astro 220's?

I looked at the LCS case but it lloks kind of flimsy and the Garmin case for the GPS 60CSX looks like it wont fit the 220 due to the antenna.

Shadow,

I needed something that I could hand to a judge and not worry that it would get lost. I was using all sorts of contraptions; bottle holders, camera bags, tote pockets, that just weren't working for me. Now I'll be able to simply hook this to the judges saddle and collect it at the end of the brace. Should work perfectly.

For daily use, I have been attaching it to the stem of the choke on my Mule. I can reach down and look at it when needed w/o disconnecting it. When on foot I use a beltloop.

Is the open space for the display have a clear plastic cover, or is the face of the receiver bare? I'd be concerned with the display getting beat up.

No plastic but the leather is pretty thick. Thought about covering it with something but mine is already scratched up because I use it everyday.

I have found it works better if kept level, so I have a dash mount cell phone holder on my K-Mule.

thanks Ross- it really looks nice

I've heard if the lense is all scratched up you can return it and Gamin will put a new face on

I like that it's open- you have access to the buttons

I've been working with Kent at Snow Canyon Outfitters, http://www.snowcanyonoutfitters.com , to get a case made for my Garmin. He is also a Zagg screen protector dealer and I will be using a Zagg protector on the screen. I'm not looking to get a case that allows use of the Astro while inside of it. I just want something that can hang from a saddle and protect the unit from bumps and bruises, falling out, or falling off.

When I hunt I just hang the unit on a laynard and wear it around my neck.

Nice recommendations. Try and erase from your mind attaching the thing to an ATV though!! Tsk, tsk, tsk fellars.

Out hunting, I just stick the thing in my vest pocket with the lanyard attached to a D-ring. In the saddle I slip it into my fence pliers pocket on my chaps and attach the lanyard to the "hammer loop". At field trials I hand my Tracker receiver to the judges...

I use the case that Dave posted and put a zagg screen protector on it. I hang it from my vest with the case clip and loop the lanyard around a clip so I have double protection if something comes loose. The Astro won't fall out of that case, it's a pretty tight fit.

I just bought a nice, well made leather case from Wilson Dunn @ Grand Junction, TN! It is very functional and he will install a Brass nameplate for you.
