That's Sarah and those are frozen semen Guard Rail pups. She normally weighs in at 46-47 lbs. Last time she was this big she had 14. Wouldn't that be something! :D

Going in for a head count x-ray on Monday and she is due to whelp on Wednesday.

If she is AI'd what process did you use?

I am guessing no more than 8 pups...... We need to start a poll and the winner gets a free pup! As said my guess is 8.....

If we guess it right do we win a puppy? Ha ha. I'm guessing 11 pups, lose a male making it 10 and 6f and 4m. How's that for a guess.

She has to build momentum to roll over far enough to get her legs under her before she can stand. Hard to believe that I had her in condition and entered in the SC OSD Championship in December. Had to scratch her because she came in. Now look at her!

Spoke with the vet and I'm taking her for the x-ray in the AM. If there are a lot (which sure seems the case) I've decided to elective c-sec them out on Tues.

Tak, surgical AI. We put the semen directly on the eggs three days after ovulation. The semen was only 40% motility after thaw. I was worried we might not even get a pup! Sarah's eggs must have grabbed the sperm by their tails and slapped them across the face and yelled, "Wake up!!" ...nevermind.

Lets see 11 x $$$$$$ = Holy crap !!!

Great idea on the C-section, why risk lossing any of the pups.
Do you know at what age Guard Rail was when he was collected for the donation ?

Ross, are these pups more novolties than anything else. $5000 a for a pup that can only eat and poop is rediculouse. Surely, you could find a better performing studdog than him for Sara.

No offense but what I said may sound offensive. It seems You base your whole line on Ko Kane but ignore the fact that she is a Miller bred gyp and focus and promote Guard Rail. Your kennel seems to have no real bloodline, just alot of outcross breedings. My next question is why don't you handle Jack sinse he's your dog. That is the fun for me, without that, the hard work would not seem very gratifying.

Ron,

No offense taken. All fair questions and I'll glady answer them.
Ross, are these pups more novolties than anything else. $5000 a for a pup that can only eat and poop is rediculouse.
A lot of people knew about the breeding and we didn't have intentions of selling the pups so I put a high price on them to dissuade any calls.
Remarkably, I have received many requests for the pups at that price. I probably need to raise it. :D
Surely, you could find a better performing studdog than him for Sara.

I couldn't disagree more. Guard Rail is an incredible producer 42-286-2703 and his motherline is legendary.
It seems You base your whole line on Ko Kane but ignore the fact that she is a Miller bred gyp and focus and promote Guard Rail.
You need to look deeper... 'Girl' is a Guard Rail Daughter. Her dam is Ko Kane. If you believe in 'motherlines' there is no better bred female anywhere. Her topside motherline is Nell's Rambling On and her bottomside motherline is Wiggins Miss sammie. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Next is Sally. She is a Miller's White Powder daughter bred to a Guard Rail Daughter.
Next is Bug. She is a White Powder daughter bred to a Rail Dancer daughter.
Next is Liz. She is a Guard Rail daughter bred to a Go Boy daughter (Nell's Rambling On dbl).
Next is Cissy. She is a Guard Rail daughter bred to a Go Boy daughter (Nell's Rambling On dbl).
Next is Magic. she is a Go Boy daughter bred to a Guard Rail daughter (Nell's Rambling On dbl).
Your kennel seems to have no real bloodline, just alot of outcross breedings.
What?
My next question is why don't you handle Jack sinse he's your dog. That is the fun for me, without that, the hard work would not seem very gratifying.
I bred, raised, trained and broke Jack. I ran him his first year in horseback, NBHA, UBH and even put a NAVHDA NA on him. :D
I co-own and manage the kennel and co-own the Plantation. I have too many responsibilities here to go on the road. We are however, putting a trial schedule together that will allow me to compete in the SE next year. It's a goal for sure.

Very impressive how you answered these questions without acting like it got under your skin a little!!

I think it is really alot about what you are into, if you are into dogs, you are going to spend more money on a better bred pup, if your into guns your going to spend $2000 for the big name instead of buying the $500 gun that will do the same thing. My wife would not bat an eye about dropping $500 on a COACH purse but does not understand me spending $500 or more on a pup. It is all about your hobbies are!!

Sure $5000 may be a little steep for a pup, but there probably are not alot of Guard Rail pups going to be born this year, (and from the pic it looks like more than expected) and even less in the future (depending on how much seamon is left on him). But if you look at the prices of pups, $400 - $600 for average, $750 plus for a pup out of a champion sire, $1000 plus for a pup out of a champoin sire and dam, Guard Rail is in the Hall of fame so shouldnt his pups be priced higher

I think there was only 3 straws of Guard Rail Juice before Ross was able to get a hold of one. They may be worth 5k. They're worth whatever someone will pay for him. For some folks 5k isn't a lot. Takes me a week to decided if I can throw 500 into a dog  .

I'm glad you're trying to hang on to some Ross. I will be fun to watch what you do with them.

I see 13 skulls but my bet is on 14 as there are usually more than you can actually see on the xray!!

Ron,

I think Ross's breeding program is speaking for itself with his dogs doing well in FT's and NAVHDA!! From seeing his dogs and talking with him he has goals and is well on his way to achieving them. Ross is a VERY hard worker on the plantation. He is busy from sun up to sundown. It would be very hard for him to be able to manage the place and train dogs if he were out on the FT circuit.

I think there are at least 15 showing but several look quite small. Thats more than I would have guessed but hope they all are ok and growing but be prepared to have a few runts at birth.

Ross is a class act and has great dogs, I never questioned that. He is also a great breeder and trainer. :D

Congtats on all those pups

Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.
