Thinking about going Pheasant hunting out that way this year I have heard good things about the area. Is there any other species of birds besides Pheasant? Is the whitetail hunting any good out there?

I'm hoping you mean next season. The pheasant hunting can be outstanding, depending on the hatch, winter, summer weather, etc... That being said, pheasant hunting anywhere in SD beats most other places hands down. Just west of town there are Sharptails, but mostly on tribal land. THere are a few huns, but targeting them would be tough. As far as whitetal hunting, unless you are SD resident drawing a tag may be difficult. I did see some big bucks, but most were on the tribal land as well (Whitetails and Mulies).

Sounds like you have quite a wish list, I hope you have enough time to give them each justice...

Standing Rock Sioux Reservation is across the river and the Cheyenne Reservation is south of it down to almost Pierre. I think Standing Rock still offers hunting for non-Indian non-resident but I am sure it comes at a good price. If you do go it would be best to have someone you know from the res to go with you. I grew up in SD and it could be an adventure going onto some of the reservations even when we were with relatives from the reservation.

Be careful on the rez.......

I think the office for Standing Rock is In North Dakota. Big rez.

Hope the birds arent getting too hammered up there this winter........might be tho.

The office is in Ft. Yates just across the border in ND. As far as being careful, yes I agree. While I never had any issues, you are a outsider in a foreign country.
