I use the bullet feeder/water from Lion Country Supply, I think they are about 15 dollars. They hold about 7 to 10 day supply and keep droppings out.

Here's a better question... With it getting cold, how do you keep the water from freezing?

Kyle,

Thats a tough one if you can't run a 'electric line to the house. I fooled around with trying some solar panels, etc without much luck.

I like to supply lots of fleshy greens during frigid temps to help supply moisture to them. I also like to give them suet cakes for the protein.

Have two waterers handy to change as one freezes. Paint a waterer black and keep it on the sunny south side of the house which will draw heat and may stay open longer than some waterers.

Birds will consume snow if it can drift into the pen as well.

One of the commercial quail outfits came up with a neat below frost line reservoir, solar lift and motion trough that kept water available to their birds. Pretty elaborate setup.

Bill

What about putting the metal pan heaters in the bottom similar to the waters used in chicken coops and sold at TCS?

You'll have no issues if you can get electric to the johnny house.

That works pretty good, although a waterer on the floor of the pen is not the best thing. It gets pooped in constantly. But in the winter, with the water cold, the bacteria do not grow very fast so a floor waterer is not as bad as during the summer. I would not use a floor waterer in the summer again, ever. Too much work and lose too many birds.

For a feeder, I put an eyebolt in the ceiling and hang a feeder from a chain.
