That's a big dog. However, "A 20-pound bag of dry dog food lasts the 180-pound canine a couple of weeks." :? Is that supposed to be amazing? Because it seems right in line with my ~50 lb dogs.

My 55lb vizsla went through a 40lb bag of Purina Pro Plan within a month. Now that we're feeding Nutrisource he goes through a 35lb bag in about six weeks. (Actually, it takes about three weeks for Justus and Belle to finish off a 35lb bag together, each getting one cup twice a day) But my point is that a 20lb bag lasting two weeks isn't out of the ordinary for some feeds.

Funny, I thought exactly the same thing. My 44 lb V eats a 40 lb bag of Pro Plan Performance roughly monthly. And everyone who sees him that isn't familiar with gun dogs asks me why I don't feed him  .

Maybe it was a bad quote.

Years ago I hunted at a famous old lodge in Manitoba (Gable hunted there, and Jimmy Robinson). They had a lab newfie cross that easily went 150 lbs. He wasn't a fast retriever, and was so big he hated to go in and out of the water. He liked to stand in the water with just his eyes and nose sticking out (like a big black gator). It was a darn cold day too! He stayed submerged for about 2 hours, but would retreive every duck shot to hand, and then slip back in amongst the decoys.

I told the lodge manager after the hunt he had better lock that dog up that night, to remove my thoughts of sneaking back and loading him in my truck.

I owned an English Mastiff (Woof Man) that weighed 235 pounds and he was not fat!

He also became a Breed Champion.

Woof Man was born to a bitch my wife had.

Although the Pick of the Litter was sold by the Stud Dog's owner the buyers did not pick the Pick of the Litter. (something I've seen many times)

Anyways to give you an idea of Woof Mans size I could stick my fist in his mouth past his rear teeth.

Right now I have a 9 month old GSP that eats more than Woof Man ever did (8 cups of kibble a day) and the GSP takes up more room than 4 English Mastiffs:-)=
