Ya well watch shark week and you will see people swimming with Tiger Sharks and Great Whites talking about how docile and misunderstood they are and how the press gives them a bad rap too. I sure as hel# ain't gonna swim with sharks much less own one and I feel the same way about Pits and fighting dogs. I have been around them and have gotten along fine with them. They are, from the ones I have been around, just like any other dog but there is always that chance that they may become agressive because of breeding and genetics. Just ask any DD or DK owner, breeder, trialer about breeding and genetics. It can go the other way too. If you can breed and genetically engineer supposedly superior hunting traits into a dog then you can darn sure breed and genetically engineer the traits for agressiveness, fighting and biting into one. I am involved in law enforcement and have many friends who are involved in law enforcement and 75% of them are dog handlers, either drug sniffers, bite dogs or both, mostly Malinois. They will all tell you to a T, yes their dogs are extremely well trained and listen very well but if they meet someone they take an instant disliking too for any reason they will bite them without being told to and it has happened and I have seen officers return a dog because the dog bit them without provication or an innocent bystander without provication or had agressivness problems. Until you have seen dogs bred for agressiveness and then trained to bring it out on command you do not realize how potentially dangerous a dog can be if it decides to attack someone. I am not talking about snapping at or biting someone but actually attacking them. In my opinion the agressiveness of fighting dogs compared to other dogs can be compared to the agressiveness of African Honey Bees compared to Americanized Honey Bees. Same insect greatly increased potential for agressiveness. JMO

if any of you TRULY knew what went into a dog fight you would know that there CAN'T be any human aggression in the dogs.
About half a dozen people in close proximity, strangers hands on the dogs, so you can't be aggressive towards people. A dog that was distracted by going after humans would give the opponent a big advantage, you couldn't have that.

I must say, I think in a given situation I could get along with any dog.
Big or small or whatever!
If there's a pouch you just wouldn't have: I think that shows your shortcomings more than the "shortcomings" of a particular breed! 8)
If you look down in the eyes of any breed, you can see that there's a dog in there!
I'm not trying to be critical I just think if you thought you were the only human left on earth and you found a dog,or he found you, you really wouldn't be so concerned about what breed he was as much as you'd be thanking the stars that you had a dog.

Don't get me wrong I certainly have my preferences, but I'm just saying...

Dalmation - Nuts, Barks, Bites, No Brain
Chow Chow - One of the only breeds to ever bite me, two different dogs
Bedlington - Just the shame of it all
Bull Terrier - Unstable mentaly, I don't think that is a good trait to have in a Terrier
Dachshund - Barks, Gets fat, Ugly (my opinion) Nippy. I realy hate these dogs and I can't totaly put a finger on it.
Chinese Crested - Because I like DOGS not whatever those are.
Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled

There have been MANY, MANY people KILLED or maimed by dogs period! Yet you only hear about the pits. What about the lady who passed out and had her dog, I think it was a lab, EAT her face off while she was still alive? I ran a Schwan's truck for 2 years. The meanest dogs on my route by far were labs, yet thousands of people have them for "Family Dogs". I had several customers with pits and NEVER had them act aggressively towards me. Dogs are predators. So to trust any dog 100% is foolishness. I love my dogs but would never leave my kids alone with any of them.

That said I think it is easier to name the dogs that I would own, most others are on the DO NOT BUY list.

They are...
1. Pudelpointer
2. English Pointer or GSP
3. German Shepard or Doberman (This won't be until I get too old to hunt and just want a buddy around the house.)

Also I wouldn't mind trying a Bourbanai or a Munsterlander in the future if the opportunity presents itself.

Yep, all dogs can be dangerous. I read article the other day about a pomeranian ripping the throat out of a new born baby when the parents left the room. The baby did not survive.

IMO IMO IMO!!!!!! i grew up on an farm and still work a farm to this day. I've handled many animals some gentle and some VERY aggressive!!! Let me tell you one thing I have never been hurt or taken buy surprise by any of the aggressive ones. Only the tame ones!!!! why is it that we always respect the aggressive one?!? I've learned the hard way to carry the pipe with me in any bull pen!! We had a very gentle bull that I could handle very well till one day one of his lady friends was unexpectedly in heat!! That day he decided to challenge me!! All animals follow there instincts!! You can raise any animal to be calm, gentle and learn to be very comfortable with it and WHAM!! on any given bad day it may snap!! You must Always treat all animals with a great deal of respect! You never know when they are having a bad day!!
I guess what I'm trying to say is treat ALL animals with respect no matter if it is a rottie, pitbull OR the little miniature poodle!! they all can get ya!!! AND they ALL can be your best loyal Friend!! Raise them right and with do respect!!!!!

I think it's funny to see some people's responses to the dislikes of others. I'm so glad we're all different!
I don't like the following breeds:
1. Pit bulls- have had several ugly encounters with them and the bad taste lingers.
2. Dachsund- my best friend had one growing up and anyone who touched my buddy would get attacked by the crazy weiner. Then my friend caught on that he could hit himself and the dog would attack others. He used to slap himself silly while the dog attacked all of his friends. I hated that dog and harbor prejudice against the breed as a whole because of it.
3. Heelers- my wife's whole fam damily has a fascination with them. One bit my daughter and I hate them all.
4. Jack Russells- the ones I've known are too hyper and obnoxious. I honestly don't know how their owners deal with them.

- Any kind of purse dog.
- Poodle (I hear they are great dogs, and plenty smart....but not for me)
- Generally any really curry or fluffy, poofy, showey type dog.
